Big name streamers often come up against opponents who are sniping their streams, following their every move. Riot’s entry in the tactical FPS scene, Valorant, recently released a patch that nerfs shotguns, among other things. Next on the list of things to fix are stream snipers.
With any live service game that continually introduces new content, there is a greater potential for something to go wrong that throws the game out of balance. A new overpowered weapon changing what the competitive scene looks like, for instance. Some issues with the game can also be fixed on the fly, like Valorant’s issue with footstep audio. Players have complained about a lack of dynamic audio, leading to “unfair” deaths at the hands of others.
Fans give a number of reasons why Valorant is a top hero shooter, but streamers are fed up with opponents sniping their streams either to get easy kills, or simply annoying the streamer. Dataminers who have looked into the latest 1.06 update have found details that look to combat stream snipers in the near future. The future update will allow streamers to hide their name from any players not in their squad. On top of this, Riot is looking to implement a feature that generates random names for players outside the party, further concealing identities.
This will be a welcome change for big name streamers who are dogged by fans who want to get a little too close for comfort in Valorant.
A key to success for a live service game is to listen to feedback, and make changes that the community will like. After hearing complaints about Valorant’s matchmaking system, Riot put a plan out to change things. Taking action is important to long term success, and this is what appears to be happening here with the stream sniping situation.
Valorant is available now for PC.
