Players can either up the challenge to Grounded difficulty, making resources scarcer and enemies deadlier, while Permadeath will force players back to the beginning of the chapter when they are killed. While there are also aspects that can be changed to make the game easier by giving the player unlimited ammo or other unlimited resources, the game also rewards players who get through the game on the hardest difficulties.
The Last of Us 2 players have been discovering new details throughout the game, including cameos by Naughty Dog narrative leads Neil Druckmann and Hailey Gross. However, the game has a lot of various secrets that fans still have that have yet to be uncovered. Lately, one player has realized that the endings have slight changes when completed on higher difficulties.
One fan took to Twitter to show that finishing The Last of Us 2 on Grounded difficulty allows players to hear Joel sing the entirety of “Future Days,” a song that is associated with his character in this game. However, it turns out that this is not the only song that is added to the game upon beating it at an updated difficulty level. Another fan chimed in on Twitter, revealing that the song “Through the Valley” plays when a player beats the game on Permadeath mode. This song is sung by Ellie’s voice actress, Ashley Johnson.
The song was originally introduced in the game trailer for The Last of Us 2. At the beginning of the trailer, Ellie is seated on a bed, playing her guitar and singing the lyrics when Joel walks over to her and initiates a conversation with her. While the controversial trailer doesn’t line up with the full game’s story, the song is still tied to the game franchise, so Naughty Dog is giving fans the opportunity to hear her sing the full version if they are able to beat the game with Permadeath mode on.
Naughty Dog is good at adding little details throughout The Last of Us 2 that players can find as they journey through the world with Ellie on her quest for revenge. Music adds an emotional element, especially after the completion of the full story arc. The game really has a way with music, and players who take on the game at its most challenging level get to hear it in full.
