As part of the DC FanDome virtual event, Harley Quinn herself made an appearance to personally answer questions from fans, and it was exactly what one would expect. This is the same character whose reaction to seeing the Batcave for the first time was “So this must be where you f*** the bats,” after all.
Straight from her apartment couch, Harley whipped out her phone and rattled off fan inquiries. Starting with an on-brand Chipotle rant, she quickly went on to answer possibly the most important question on fans’ minds: Will there be a season 3? Unfortunately, her answer confirmed that no official order has been made as of yet, but it was still entertaining in a way fans of the show have come to expect.
“I mean I f***ing hope so,” she said, “it’s probably up to some d***head executive that has a personal trainer who says the word ‘core’ a lot. In which case, hi Mr. Executive! Did you know the show is super cheap to make and I play well internationally cause I’m hyper violent?”
The Q&A was filled with tongue in cheek moments such as Harley shamelessly singing the praises of HBO Max, the show’s new home. This was followed by several more expletive-laden answers and tangents ranging from making fun of fans’ names to giving her “f***, marry, kill” answers. The latter allowed for a lovely fanservice moment where she ignored the question and just said “Marry Ivy. What? This is my f***ing q&a, I don’t have to play by the rules.”
Perhaps the funniest moments took place near the end, where Harley threw some barely veiled shade at Jared Leto’s infamous take on The Joker, answering a question about opening a tattoo parlor with “you know my ex had some pretty regrettable tats he paid a lot of money to have lazed off.” She then added in a meaningful tone, “you know what I’m talking about.” A passing mention of The Big Bang Theory, which stars Harley’s voice actor Kaley Cuoco, rounded out the meta commentary.
Harley Quinn quickly became a surprise hit when it premiered on the DC Universe streaming service in late 2019. Its wildly irreverent tone and loads of super violent sequences caught audiences off guard, and then nearly gave them whiplash when it brought on unexpected moments of genuine character connections. Of course, the show’s excellent writing and performances could nearly be enough on their own, but that extra punch truly set it apart.
After Harley Quinn moved to HBO Max, along with the rest of DC Universe’s original programming, fans were uncertain of the show’s fate. The second season finale gave some satisfying payoffs for ongoing storylines and tensions while still remaining open-ended, so it’s no surprise that audiences have been hungry for more ever since.
The first two seasons of Harley Quinn can be streamed on HBO Max.
