Microsoft Flight Simulator: Where is Area 51? | Game Rant

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is known for its incredible realism, real-world maps, and even real-world flight times. It even can take a 16-hour flight to get from Los Angeles to Dubai. So if real maps have been used to construct the in-game world, that means players can visit places that they can’t in real life, like Area 51.

Area 51 is a secret military base in Nevada that is both a training facility and an airport. It has a long history of rumored association with aliens, UFOs, and other secret research involving outer space, but those rumors have never been proven. It made headlines last year as the Storm Area 51 meme gained traction online, leading to reporters covering an Area 51 stormer Naruto-running on air.

Finally, gamers all over the world can visit any number of places in Microsoft Flight Simulator, including an odd-looking Buckingham Palace, Chernobyl, the Eiffel Tower, and of course, Area 51. YouTube content creator ObsidianAnt was incredibly interested in finding out exactly what happens when players land at the classified landing strip out in the desert.

Area 51 is located in a large, open desert north of Las Vegas, and is called Nellis Air Force Range. It can’t be flown over in real life, as the airspace above is considered restricted airspace. There is a landing strip there, however, but it’s not for civilians or most military aircraft. But ObsidianAnt considered that perhaps the newest version of Microsoft Flight Simulator would let players fly over the secret space.

Instead of heading to the American South and flying over Disney World in Microsoft Flight Simulator, the adventurous ObsidianAnt decided to risk it and make for Area 51. As they flew over the beginnings of restricted areas, the YouTuber seemed surprised that there was no military reaction. No one told them to turn back, and then the pilot was even cleared for landing.

Unfortunately for alien enthusiasts around the world, there are no aliens to be seen in Area 51 inside of Flight Simulator 2020. In fact, there is almost nothing of note there at all. Just a very long landing strip, some vehicles and planes parked around the buildings, and rows of white-roofed buildings. There are almost no people wandering around, no fences or security guards, and certainly nothing spooky or spectacular. Just another one of the 37,000 airports that players can land at and visit.

According to this video, which shows everything that’s available to see in Area 51, players are better off trying to track down where their own, real-life homes are in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 instead of visiting this secret space. Here’s the full video of the landing below:
