Warner Bros. and DC are currently holding DC FanDome online, an event packed full of news and reveals for the latest DC Comics films, TV shows, and video games. Gotham Knights has already been revealed, and later tonight Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad game will be unveiled. NetherRealm Studios saw an opportunity in all the hype to try and get Mortal Kombat 11 some of the spotlight, too. To celebrate the occasion, NetherRealm is bringing back Arkham Anarchy.
For those unfamiliar, Arkham Anarchy is a special Tower event in Mortal Kombat 11, though it’s not anything particularly unique or special. This isn’t the first time that the Arkham Anarchy event has been available in Mortal Kombat 11 and it very likely won’t be the last, either. But it’s nevertheless an appropriate event for DC FanDome, since the reward for Arkham Anarchy is a unique skin for the Joker.
The final opponent in Mortal Kombat 11‘s Arkham Anarchy Tower is none other than the Joker, wearing an assortment of gear including the Playful Predator disguise, the Ugly Stick Kane, and the orange Gotham Anarchist skin. It’s not even a particularly rare Tower, in fact. Rather, it’s a Rapid Tower bumps up to a Premiere for the event. Dedicated Mortal Kombat 11 players likely already have the gear available unlocked, too, but it’s better than nothing.
Funnily enough, there wasn’t anything Joker-related announced or revealed during the DC FanDome event. Joker’s just the DC character that NetherRealm has in Mortal Kombat 11, so WB’s going to put him to use.
There is one elephant in the room that isn’t being addressed, of course, that being that NetherRealm was rumored to be announcing Injustice 3 at DC FanDome, coinciding with the reveal of a new Injustice comic named Year Zero. It’s now looking like the new Injustice is not going to be introduced this weekend and NetherRealm will not be announcing anything. The Joker Tower is even less exciting in that comparison.
It isn’t clear why the rumored Injustice announcement didn’t happen, but this past week DC confirmed that instead of one FanDome event there would now be two. The second DC FanDome is scheduled for September 12 and is subtitled “Explore the Multiverse.” A schedule for this second event has not been revealed yet, but NetherRealm fans should keep their eyes open for Injustice, though a reveal isn’t a guarantee there, either.
Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
