Spider-Man’s Mr. Negative Voice Actor is Playing Gotham Knights’ Red Hood

It’s been a long time coming, but after many rumors and teases, the next Batman video game, titled Gotham Knights, was officially revealed today at DC’s FanDome event. New details have been gradually coming out since the announcement, touching upon how the game will play and how it might connect to the popular Arkham games. This now includes the first detail about the game’s voice cast.

Contrary to most of the rumors that have preceded the game’s reveal, Gotham Knights won’t be focused on Batman himself. Instead, the game will have players play as members of the extended Bat-family as they fight to protect Gotham City in the wake of Bruce Wayne’s death. These members, according to the reveal trailer, include Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood.

One thing DC didn’t reveal at FanDome was who will be voicing these characters, but now that the game is official, one of the actors has come forward instead. That actor is Stephen Oyoung, and he confirmed on Twitter that he will be doing the voice of Red Hood, AKA Jason Todd, in Gotham Knights.

This marks the latest high-profile role Oyoung has done in a superhero game. Fans will likely know him best for a role he played for DC’s biggest competitor, as he also did the voice of Mr. Negative, one of the major villains in Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PS4. Now he will lend his skills to bring the gun-toting ex-Robin to life.

WB Games and its Montreal studio, which is developing Gotham Knights, have been fairly forthcoming with the broader details today. The trailers that were released at FanDome confirmed the many rumors that the next Batman game will feature the Court of Owls, while at the same time highlighting gameplay that will feature things like Arkham-style melee combat and two-player co-op.

That last one has actually been a point of contention among fans so far, along with other aspects of the gameplay shown off today. From the looks of it, Gotham Knights may be going in a direction similar to Marvel’s Avengers, with the incorporation of loot and RPG mechanics that suggest a possible live-service game, one that seems to not actually let players play as Batman. Judging from the negative reaction to Gotham Knights’ gameplay trailer, that’s not what a lot of fans were hoping for from the next game set in the Caped Crusader’s world.

Gotham Knights will be released in 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
