It has been a year ever since Nintendo confirmed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 by releasing the game’s debut trailer at E3 last year. Since then, the studio has been silent about the sequel’s development, and no concrete information was released on what to expect in the upcoming game.
Several days ago, it appears that the Collector’s Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 has been leaked by a French retailer. At the moment, Nintendo hasn’t spoken out about the alleged leak, so players should take it with a grain of salt. However, if this turns out to be true, what is included in the Collector’s Edition of Breath of the Wild 2, and what does this leak mean for the actual release date of the game?
Unfortunately, the leaked Collector’s Edition of Breath of the Wild 2 by French retailer WT&T did not specify the exact details of this special bundle. If true, then it is possible that Nintendo itself hasn’t sorted out what to include in the game’s Collector’s Edition. However, looking back at the special editions of the first Breath of the Wild game, then it is safe to assume that the sequel’s Collector’s Edition could include more or less similar trinkets such as the soundtrack, a physical map, a statue, and some small thingamabobs. As far as pricing is concerned, the leaked Collector’s Edition is priced at €82.85, which is roughly $100. It is worth noting that the Special Edition of Breath of the Wild was around that same price while the Master Edition had an SRP of $129.99.
Although it is disappointing that the leaked information by WT&T did not exactly reveal what the Collector’s Edition of the sequel will contain, at least this confirms that Breath of the Wild 2 could release in two or more versions, assuming that the leak is genuine. However, one thing that the leaked info did reveal is a release date. In its listing, it was indicated that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will be available on December 31, 2020. But, given that this date is just a few months away, it is likely just a placeholder, which is not uncommon for listings.
Given that the leaked information about Breath of the Wild 2’s Collector’s Edition remains unconfirmed by Nintendo, then it is likely that this doesn’t really mean anything for the upcoming sequel. Of course, it is no doubt that a lot of people are anticipating the release of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 given the massive success that the first game was able to achieve when it was launched in 2017. Additionally, even if the leaked Collector’s Edition does exist, it is likely that the retailer put up the listing as a mere placeholder for the upcoming game.
On the other hand, the leaked Collector’s Edition could also be an indicator that an official announcement about Breath of the Wild 2 will be released soon. In the past, it has been a trend for information about a game in development to be leaked mere weeks or even days before an official announcement from the game’s developers. So if this is the case, then when can players expect an update from Nintendo about the upcoming sequel?
At the moment, Nintendo still hasn’t announced any upcoming Direct presentation in the near future. The last one was an Indie World showcase that ran about 20 minutes long and focused on indie games coming to the Nintendo Switch. Of course, it wouldn’t be unlikely for Nintendo to release a surprise update about Breath of the Wild 2. However, as it stands now, it appears that leaked Collector’s Edition is just a mere placeholder for the upcoming sequel.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is in development for the Nintendo Switch.
