After spending two years working on the state of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 to turn the game around from a disastrous launch, EA appears to be making all the right moves for its next big take on the property, Star Wars: Squadrons. From a complete lack of microtransactions to a cheaper price tag and no special editions, EA Motive has decided to put gameplay first and foremost with Star Wars: Squadrons and wants to make a fun Star Wars experience that fans will love to play.
In Star Wars: Squadrons, players will be enlisted into either the New Republic or the Empire after the destruction of the second Death Star and battle it out in intense first-person only Star Wars dog fights across a single-player campaign and multiplayer. There’s no need to worry about which special edition to buy with Star Wars: Squadrons, only whether to pre-order the game and where to pick it up from to unlock a handful of bonus cosmetic items. Here’s a complete guide to every Star Wars: Squadrons pre-order bonus.
Despite still being a AAA Star Wars game, it is a smaller project when compared to Star Wars: Battlefront 2 or Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and because of that, EA elected to release Star Wars: Squadrons for $39.99 to match the scope and scale of the experience. Players that are looking to pre-order Star Wars: Squadrons ahead of the game’s October launch will gain access to a handful of exclusive cosmetic-only items to use of their starfighters and pilots, however, there’s no need to worry about additional microtransactions in the full game.
All pre-orders for Star Wars: Squadrons will receive an Imperial Ace Flight Suit and a New Republic Flight Suit, a starfighter skin for each of the four New Republic starfighter classes as well as four skins for the Imperial Ace side (pictured above), and finally, a New Republic Recruit Decal and an Imperial Ace Decal. All of the mentioned items will only affect the cosmetic look of the player and their ship, while performance upgrades including the shields, weapons, and engines are all unlocked through gameplay.
Star Wars: Squadrons will only have one edition of the game and will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For those looking to pre-order the game to get these rewards, here’s where players can pick up the game from.
PS4: PlayStation Store, GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart
Xbox: Microsoft Store, GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart
PC: Origin, Steam, Epic, GameStop, Best Buy
Unlike the recent controversy surrounding Control and its next-generation upgrade, Star Wars: Squadrons players won’t need to worry about rebuying the game. EA has confirmed that Star Wars: Squadrons will be backward compatible on both PS5 and Xbox Series X from their launch day with no current plans for a next-gen upgrade. While it’s certainly unfortunate the game won’t get extra bells and whistles for the new consoles, at least players can expect to receive boosted performance and graphical fidelity from the increased power of the new hardware.
Star Wars: Squadrons will release October 2, 2020, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
