Pokemon GO players are busy this weekend as they decide the next Community Day events. Voting is up now as trainers choose between Porygon, Grimer, Caterpie, or Charmander. Niantic has revealed what special move Charmander would get in Pokemon GO if it were to win the vote, and fans are already excited about it.
Voting for the next Community Day Pokemon isn’t something new to the game, and it is a feature that fans have grown to love. Having a hand in selecting what Pokemon the trainers can catch next allows players to feel like they are truly a community. For this current vote, Niantic declared that the top two winners will be featured on September 20 and October 17, respectively.
Niantic revealed that Charizard’s evolved during Community Day would gain access to the move Dragon Breath. This Dragon-type attack is a Fast Move that has a base power of 6, cooldown of .5 seconds, and could make Charizard even more of a competitive threat.
While this recent vote doesn’t end for another few hours, the results became clear almost as soon as it was opened. Porygon seems to be holding a definitive first place with more than half of the total votes, but Charmander is a strong second place. Charmander is the more popular of the two, but Porygon’s shiny form has yet to be added to the game. Along with the fact that Porygon is much rarer Pokemon, it makes sense that more fans are encouraging others to vote for it.
Another factor to this voting is the rumor of Pokemon GO adding Mega evolutions. A feature from a couple of the games, Mega forms are stronger versions of certain Pokemon that also changes their appearance. One main Mega evolution is Charizard, who gets Charizard Y and Charizard X. The Y form is a deeper dive into the wyvern side of the fire dragon, while the X form changes the starter’s type from Fire/Flying to Fire/Dragon, accompanied by blue fire.
Regardless of how the voting goes, the game seems to be as alive as ever. During the first digital Pokemon GO Fest, trainers caught almost one billion Pokemon across the world. Despite the pandemic and social distancing practices, this game built for outdoors and walking seems to be doing just fine.
Trainers are currently spending their time focusing on raids. The Fire/Steel Pokemon Heatran is in 5-star raids right now, so hopefully it can keep players occupied until the next Community Day happens. Unless voting changes drastically, it looks like Porygon will be available in September and Charmander will be in October.
Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS.
