World of Warcraft: Shadowlands may not have a firm release date but Blizzard is making the lead-up exciting for fans of the still popular online game. In it’s next shakeup, the developer is overhauling a crucial assistant to any MMO player.
Blizzard has announced that the World of Warcraft Companion App will be getting a significant overhaul to prepare for the upcoming Shadowlands expansion. Its big addition that will likely grab the most attention is the integration of Shadowlands‘ Covenants and Adventures.
“Adventures” is Shadowlands‘ new mechanic focused on strategy, where players send units off to battle. The Companion App will allow gamers to prepare these battles out via their mobile devices on either iOS or Android. While Blizzard previously explained that the feature would require players to utilize their Sanctum in the endgame of Shadowlands, now the Companion App removes the required log-in steps.
Beyond the new way to interact with Shadowlands‘ big mini-game, the app is also receiving a large list of quality-of-life improvements. The app will have updated support content for the last major expansions including Legion and Battle for Azeroth. On the general level, Blizzard notes that the app will now feature an updated WoW News section, community features including guild chat, an event calendar, and the ability for players to examine their characters and weapons.
While Shadowlands might not have a firm release date, players are experiencing some massive changes as the pre-expansion patches are rolling in. Players are already dealing with old foes returning to WoW as the Shadowlands expansion arrives this Fall.
World of Warcraft is available now on PC.
