Here’s Why NBA 2K21 is Trending on Twitter | Game Rant

Twitter users who keep up on the latest NBA 2K21 news may be noticing the tag is trending on Twitter. Although the full game doesn’t release today, it is an important day in the game’s development and fans have a lot to say online.

The next game in the popular pro-basketball franchise, NBA 2K21, has been generating a lot of buzz in fan communities, and a lot of the hype is culminating today. The NBA 2K21 demo released today at 7 AM PT for all consoles in the current gen, and fans downloading and playing the demo are having a pretty mixed reaction.

The current-gen demo is now live, and allows players to play with four teams, build their MyPlayer, and experience what 2K’s official Twitter calls “2K21 gameplay innovations.” Plenty of people were and are excited about getting to play the demo, and there’s already been a ton of fan theories about what NBA 2K21 will bring to the series. One exciting new feature that most people are getting excited for is having both high school and college confirmed in MyCareer, however, not everyone has something positive to say.

NBA 2K21 is designed to transfer to next-gen consoles easily, with the MyTeam progress having an option to carry over between game editions, and the Mamba Forever Edition giving players a way to avoid buying two copies of the game. However, there’s a fair amount of disappointment at the game’s creativity in the tag, and some players are planning to cancel their Mamba Forever orders and opting to only buy the next-gen copy of the game when it releases. The NBA next-gen games will be more expensive, and the devs are pointing at the improved quality of next-gen consoles meaning players should have to pay more for a better experience. But most people want a genuinely new and exciting product if they’re gonna shell out this much money.

Other people are criticizing how similar NBA 2K21 is to 2K20, with some people complaining about the long wait in the PlayStation store to just get what they call a waste of GB. Some noted that the new soundtrack is fun, but the double-take reaction to people thinking they’d accidentally loaded up 2K20 was pretty common.

The reaction isn’t all bad, and some people enjoyed the opportunity to try out the updated mechanics and listen to some new music. But judging by today’s reaction, the actual game will have to be a major improvement over the demo if 2K wants to avoid repeating the 2K20 review bombing.

NBA 2K21 releases September 4 on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One and mobile devices, followed by PS5 and Xbox Series X at a later date.
