With the final beta weekend coming to a close and Marvel’s Avengers now eyeing the launch finish line, players are slowly learning more information about the intriguing title. In addition to the evil organization A.I.M. and its unique leader M.O.D.O.K., fans have been discovering new details regarding the game’s post launch plans from new heroes, costumes, content, and more. However, fans also found out that they’re going to make sure they have enough free space in order to even install the game.
Two weeks from now when Marvel’s Avengers launches, PlayStation 4 fans are going to have to make sure that they have at least 90GB of free hard drive space in order to just install the game. The surprising detail was revealed by YouTuber TheRelaxingEnd who received an early copy of the Earth’s Mightiest Edition of the game.
The unboxing video gives fans a good look at everything this edition of Marvel’s Avengers comes with including all of the goodies included. TheRelaxingEnd shows off the bigger stuff like Captain America statue and Bobblehead Hulk figure, as well as the steelcase, digital content, and the included artwork. The video also shows off parts of the box in greater detail, letting fans take a good look at some of the smaller print as well.
While showing off the back parts of the box, the camera zooms in to show off some of the requirements and functionality the game has including PlayStation Plus being required to play online. It is here that also shows the minimum 90GB hard drive requirement, essentially double the space required from other superhero games to date. Since this is only the PS4 version, it’s unknown if the PC and Xbox One games will follow suit, though it seems more than plausible that they’ll be at least similar if not exactly the same.
Unfortunately for players this generation, these high hard drive space requirements are nothing new. Large space requirements have been on the rise more recently with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare being the poster boy for hard drive space frustrations. Not only is the game demanding, but each update the game receives seems to be a substantial download for players, regardless of platform. In fact, the game has gotten so large that developer Infinity Ward actually released instructions to help players uninstall parts of the game to bring the game’s size down to more reasonable levels.
Marvel’s Avengers will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One on September 4, with Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions coming at a later date.
