Microsoft Raising Funds for Healthcare Workers With Halo Face Masks

The coronavirus has impacted the gaming industry by slowing the development of games while increasing their demand. Some gaming companies have seen greater profits during this turbulent time and as a result, are giving back to those who need it. It seems that Microsoft is keen to use its platform and Halo brand to support those who are battling the global pandemic.  Microsoft alongside Meta Threads is selling limited edition Halo face masks that help to support healthcare workers who are working to help those who have been impacted by the pandemic.

Collaborations with Halo have already generated $430,000 for charitable causes that are fighting the coronavirus pandemic. However, the new apparel delivers materials to health workers directly and also rewards consumers with stylized mask protection. Fans of the Halo franchise simply need to buy a $19.99 face mask and two will be donated to medical employees as part of the #GamersMask4Masks Campaign.

Maskfordocs will receive two masks for every mask purchased and the scheme is designed to get health workers the PPE that they need. Collaborations like this have been an immediate success and other partnerships between Microsoft and Meta Thread have already led to 53,866 masks being created and distributed. The masks are washable and reusable as well as FDA registered and they are intended to protect the wearer from the airborne virus. On top of the protection, many fans of the Halo franchise will enjoy the fact that the mask follows the color scheme of the franchise (green and yellow) and adds the logo to make it look more unique than typical face coverings.

Halo frequently collaborates with companies, however, it is rare to see the franchise work on a charitable cause. In many ways, this is a testament to the impact COVID-19 has had on all areas of life but it is also reflective of changes that are happening within the gaming industry as a whole. Gaming companies are beginning to work with fan bases to raise money and awareness for charitable causes. This year, several developers and publishers contributed to the Australian Bush Fire relief as well as Black Lives Matter causes.

Many Halo fans will be keen to pick up this protective garment and show their adoration for the franchise which has delivered some of the best first-person shooter action over the last twenty years. Furthermore, collaborations like this may set a precedent for more merchandise being tied with charitable and ethical causes. With that in mind, many will want to support this particular collaboration.
