Predicting Resident Evil 4 Remake’s Release Date | Game Rant

A couple of months ago, Capcom announced that Resident Evil 8 is in development, confirming the studio’s hiatus in developing new Resident Evil games in favor of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes has come to an end. However, this is not to say that Capcom is done re-imagining its classic back catalog, and although no official announcement has been made on what the next Resident Evil remake will be, it is all but confirmed to be Resident Evil 4.

Chronologically speaking, the next remake should have been Resident Evil Code Veronica given that its events took place almost immediately after the destruction of Raccoon City, which was chronicled in Resident Evil 3. Yet, given the popularity of Resident Evil 4, it is not surprising that Capcom decided to skip over Code Veronica for it, as Resident Evil 4 is almost guaranteed to attract a wider audience. Of course, it is important to remember Resident Evil 4 remake remains officially unconfirmed, but assuming that it is going to happen, when should fans expect to see it?

As previously mentioned, Capcom is prioritizing the development of Resident Evil 8, but according to rumors, Resident Evil 4 remake will follow shortly after. During the big reveal of Resident Evil 8 during the big PS5 event last June, Capcom’s announcement came with a debut trailer, suggesting that the upcoming installment has been in development for quite some time. Although specific details about Resident Evil 8 is still being kept under wraps, Capcom revealed that the game will be set in a village, will star Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield, and will release for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X sometime in 2021.

Now, with Resident Evil 8 confirmed to launch in 2021, it is safe to assume that Resident Evil 4 remake could follow shortly after as rumors have suggested. Looking at Capcom’s pattern in releasing its games in previous years, it appears that the likeliest release date for Resident Evil 4 remake is sometime in 2022 at the earliest. Of course, this is not to say that Capcom will only devote one year to reimagining Resident Evil 4 after the launch of Resident Evil 8, given that it is likely that the development of both games would overlap at some point, similar to Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. It is even possible that Resident Evil 4 remake is already in its early stages of development and Capcom is just keeping this a secret to avoid pulling the attention of fans away from Resident Evil 8.

Aside from looking at Capcom’s pattern in releasing Resident Evil games in the past, rumors also support the 2022 release window for Resident Evil 4 remake. In a tweet posted by notable Resident Evil leaker Aesthetic Gamer, it has been revealed that the team who will be taking charge in Resident Evil 4’s development has already been selected and will be bigger than those who have worked in Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. According to Aesthetic Gamer, M-Two, which helped with the development of Resident Evil 3 remake, will be taking charge of Resident Evil 4 remake.

Additionally, the team is closely monitoring the response to Resident Evil 3, to see which elements worked and which didn’t. Of course, it is no secret that ever since the release of Resident Evil 3 remake earlier this year, the game has been criticized by longtime fans of the franchise due to its short length and the removal of some of the game’s locations, key features, and multiple endings. Of course, while there is no sure way of knowing how Capcom plans to approach the Resident Evil 4 remake, at least fans can rest easy knowing that the developers are closely monitoring fan feedback from Resident Evil 3 remake.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is rumored to be in development.
