Small Detail In Gotham Knights Trailer Could Reveal Who Killed Commissioner Gordon

Now that the weekend has ended, everyone can come down from the high that DC Comics put fans through with the DC Fandome. Overall the event was a hit and gaming fans enjoyed two video game reveals throughout the day. But now it’s time for internet sleuths and super fans to scrub through the trailers for little hidden details and it seems like someone has found a new detail in the Gotham Knights trailer that may indicate what happened to Jim Gordon.

The reveal trailer for Gotham Knights opens up with several different news broadcasts talking about an explosion and news anchors mentioning that something has happened to Bruce Wayne. This is followed up by Batman telling the members of the Bat-family that he, Batman, is dead and they must keep Gotham safe. This series of events is very similar to the true ending of Batman: Arkham Knight where Batman finishes cleaning up Gotham and must disappear or for all intents and purposes, die. However, WB Games Montreal has confirmed that Gotham Knights is in its own universe separate from the Arkham Universe, which gives the developers a new narrative to play with. But WB Montreal didn’t only kill off Batman for its new game.

As the reveal trailer for Gotham Knights continues, Batman’s voice over explains to the Bat-family that the villains of Gotham will take advantage of the city now that Batman is gone and the Gotham City Police Department can’t be trusted. In this universe, Jim Gordon is said to be dead, so the Bat-family has no allies inside the GCPD. This story detail is glossed over without an explanation of how, but Reddit user u/McManus26 pointed out that the GCPD badge has an owl sitting on top of it. This could be a reference to the Court of Owls, one of the main enemies the Bat-family will fight in Gotham Knights, being in control of the GCPD and possibly eliminating Jim Gordon and ushering in their own Commissioner.

The Court of Owls are a secret group that has operated for centuries within Gotham City and attempt to use their group of high-ranking Gothamites to gain control over other parts of the city. So with the Court of Owls having their fierce talons in everything throughout Gotham City, it isn’t a big leap to think they had some kind on involvement in the killing of Jim Gordon to help solidify control of the GCPD. The group’s influence could be the reason Batman explains that the GCPD can’t be trusted, as the world’s greatest detective might have figured it all out before his supposed death. But since story details are scarce, this is just a theory picked up by information-hungry fans of the Batman games.

WB Games Montreal hasn’t shared too much about the narrative in Gotham Knights but some fans of the Arkham series think that the studio’s first game, Batman: Arkham Origins, told an excellent story worthy of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Universe. With that in mind, fans should be excited about the game’s potential and bringing the Court of Owls to life within the video game. WB Games Montreal is also introducing co-op gameplay for Gotham Knights, where players will be able to switch between Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Red Hood.

Unfortunately, the reaction to Gotham Knights hasn’t been very positive with the Batman: Arkham faithful. Fans of the series were hoping for another gritty Batman game and taking on Talon and the Court of Owls as their bruting hero. Once the game was revealed to stray away from the Arkham series and not feature Batman, fans flooded the gameplay trailer for Gotham Knights to dislike and comment on the video expressing their frustrations.

Gotham Knights launches in 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
