Apex Legends: How to Fix DNS Connection Issues | Game Rant

Apex Legends players are reporting a spike in lag issues across all platforms. While random hiccups of internet issues are a given in any online game, it can be extremely frustrating when it occurs in intense moments that result in dying and or losing. With Apex Legends, one of the more innovative battle royale games of recent memory, an unlucky bout of lag can be infuriating. Luckily, there is a fix that helps with the issue.

Changing the DNS settings can help address lag issues in Apex Legends. While doing this may not completely rid of the problem, many fans have said that making these adjustments have helped significantly. This can also be done on any platform that Apex Legends is playable on.

To change the DNS settings on PC, players must first click on the Windows icon. Then, hit Network Connections and select Ethernet Tab. Of the options that are available, click on “Change Adapter Options” and find the “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).” The DNS settings will be at the bottom of this screen.

In preferred DNS, enter 8.8.8.8 and in alternative type in 8.8.4.4. Lastly, find “Internet Protocol Version 4” and in preferred type 2001:4860:4860::8888, while entering in 2001:4860:4860::8844 in the alternative. After doing this, boot-up Apex Legends and destroy the competition with Rampart, or any of the other Legends.

The Xbox One also has adjustable DNS settings. These exact steps may change when the new Xbox dashboard is implemented.

First players must must go to the Xbox home screen and go to the Settings. Next, find “Network” and select “Advanced Settings” and find “DNS Settings.” Click “manual” and enter in 8.8.8.8 in preferred DNS and 8.8.4.4 as the alternative.

Apex Legends was the highest downloaded PS4 free-to-play game of 2019, so not dealing with lag spikes against the countless enemies in the battle royale would certainly be nice.

From the Settings area on the PS4 home, click Network. Then go to “Set up Internet Connection” and click on wired or wireless (based on what method is used on the PS4). Click “IP Address Settings (Automatic),” and then “DHCP Host Name (Do Not Use),” and finally “DNS Settings (Manual).” Lastly, in the preferred area enter in 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for alternative.

Lag in video games, especially a BR, can be obnoxious to say the least. Hopefully the DNS settings will lower those spikes so that players can have success in the new limited time event in Apex Legends, in ranked, and more.

Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version in development.
