Resident Evil 8 Should Feature These Enemies From Past RE Games

It has been a couple of months ever since Capcom confirmed the development of Resident Evil 8, which is the upcoming installment to the long time survival horror franchise. During the game’s official announcement at Sony’s PS5 event last June, Capcom released a debut trailer confirming some key details about the game such as the return of Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield,  the village location (and hence its official name of Resident Evil Village), and that it will release sometime in 2021.

As far as enemies are concerned, Resident Evil 8‘s debut trailer did show some of the foes that players can expect to encounter in the upcoming game. So far, the preview showed werewolves, a witch, and other enemies that appear to be supernatural in nature. There were also a few other details about the upcoming game’s enemies as told by playtesters who have allegedly played a demo of the game.

Based on everything revealed so far about Resident Evil 8, it appears that the enemies in the game will be vastly different from previous Resident Evil games. However, one thing that was highlighted by the recent remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 is that the classic enemies of previous games are just as terrifying if not better than the new ones, and here are some that Capcom should reintroduce in Resident Evil 8.

Ever since Resident Evil 4, Capcom has steer cleared of zombies, which has been a staple in the series since the first game. In some ways, the decision to ditch zombies and other traditional enemies in Resident Evil 4 is a good thing, given that the franchise has relied on them since its inception in 1996. Although zombies have reappeared in the remakes and other games in the franchise in some form, it appears that Resident Evil 8 is the perfect time to re-introduce these classic monsters to the survival horror franchise. Of course, it is worth mentioning that some leakers claim that there will be armored zombies in Resident Evil 8, so they may be returning to the franchise after all.

However, apart from classic zombies, it would also be nice to see the return of Crimson Head Zombies in Resident Evil 8. To the uninitiated, Crimson Heads were first introduced in Resident Evil Remake and are resurrected forms of normal zombies. If the player shoots down a zombie and fails to burn its body or decapitate its head, it will transition to a Crimson Head which is a faster and stronger version of a zombie.

Among all the monsters that have been introduced in the Resident Evil franchise, Lickers have become one of the most recognizable enemies among fans of the franchise. When Lickers were first introduced in Resident Evil 2 back in 1998, these monsters were designed to be much scarier and menacing than the hunters introduced in the first game. Of course, the Lickers officially made a return in last year’s Resident Evil 2, allowing players to experience these monsters in today’s gaming technology.

Although Resident Evil 4 was the first game in the series to ditch zombies, it was also the first one to introduce the Chainsaw Man. Of course, hearing the chainsaw roar to life for the first time would definitely send chills down the spine of players, especially since getting too close to the Chainsaw Man would result in an instant and gruesome death. Interestingly enough, Resident Evil 8’s village setting is perfect for the Chainsaw Man to make his return given that it was also in a remote village when players first encountered him in Resident Evil 4.

Similar to Lickers, Hunters have also become iconic monsters in Resident Evil games. However, not many would probably know about the Invisible Hunters that were introduced in Resident Evil Revelations. Apart from their ability to conceal themselves to enemies, Invisible Hunters are more or less similar to regular Hunters, but of course, they are more threatening given that the player would be unable to see them.

Last but not least are Resident Evil’s iconic tyrants. Ever since the first game, these tyrants have been the stuff of nightmares for some fans, and each new entry in the franchise would introduce a stronger and more menacing version of this classic enemy. Of course, it would be interesting to see how Capcom could introduce these “ultimate lifeforms” in Resident Evil 8, given that the premise of the upcoming game is vastly different from those of the classic entries.

Resident Evil 8 is in development for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
