Activision has finally revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to the world in an explosive trailer that mainly showcases the game’s campaign. Additional details about what the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign will entail have since been revealed by developer Raven Software.
Treyarch will be handling the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer development, whereas Raven Software is working on the campaign. Raven Software previously made 2010’s Singularity, which earned strong reviews at the time of its release, so many fans will be happy to see the studio back in the driver’s seat for a single-player FPS experience. However, Raven looks to be making some big changes to the Call of Duty campaign formula that should shake things up quite a bit.
In the Black Ops Cold War campaign, players will be able to choose dialogue and make choices that can impact the narrative. There will also be optional side missions that Black Ops Cold War players will unlock that they can play to further impact the main story. It will all lead to the Black Ops Cold War finale, which will have multiple endings. Besides the choices players make, the way they choose to play the game will also influence how it ends.
By having multiple endings, Black Ops Cold War‘s campaign should have a lot more replay value than the typical Call of Duty campaign. The inclusion of side missions is a nice touch as well, and should also go a long way in ensuring that the Black Ops Cold War campaign is a little meatier than what franchise fans are used to in the games.
Of course, the campaign is still just one piece of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War puzzle. Along with the campaign, players can also expect Black Ops Cold War to deliver the traditional Call of Duty multiplayer experience, in addition to the co-op Zombies mode. More information on multiplayer will be coming on September 9, but it’s unclear exactly when fans will get a more in-depth look at Zombies.
So far, it seems fans have reacted positively to Black Ops Cold War‘s reveal trailer, and seem optimistic about the game. Raven Software is certainly taking risks with the campaign, but it should still be familiar to longtime fans of the franchise. More information should come to light about what to expect from the Black Ops Cold War campaign between now and the game’s November release date.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches on November 13 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
