Destiny 2 fans have found some cool callbacks to a classic Destiny strike in Destiny 2‘s summer content, leading up to the next major expansion Destiny 2: Beyond Light.
The Season of Arrivals content, which Bungie detailed earlier in the year, has kept players busy trying to acquire the Forerunner title by unlocking Triumphs in the game. One such method is by completing the Interference missions: Ritual, Relic, and Crystal.
Over on Destiny‘s subreddit, a user by the name of TylerFortierPhoto noticed that all three missions reference a strike called The Sunless Cell in Destiny 1. In the Ritual encounter, players must capture 2 plates on both the left and right side of a room, a premise somewhat similar to capturing plates in the Destiny 1 strike.
The Relic mission includes a Thrallway section, with enemies charging at the player on the curvature of the bridge, another section similar to The Sunless Cell, which included its own Thrallway bridge with enemies attacking Guardians in a similar manner. The Crystal encounter includes a Hive Knight that will teleport away from players then reappear and attack, not uncommon for a Hive Knight, but yet another reference to the Destiny 1 Strike. The three missions are just a small portion of the summer content that players are playing through with hopes to obtain the Solstice of Heroes Armor Glow Upgrade.
Meanwhile, Destiny 2: Beyond Light will sunset several several Crucible modes currently in the game. As part of the Destiny Content Vault, which removes modes in the game to be reworked and reintroduced later, Bungie will be removing Supremacy, Countdown, and Lockdown Crucible modes among others. Also being removed is Scorched, Momentum Control, and Doubles.
With the launch of Destiny 2: Beyond Light nearing, more info about the expansion is expected to be revealed this week. Both Bungie and Geoff Keighley announced that a new look at the expansion will be revealed at the all-digital event Gamescom happening on August 27th. Gamescom, like many other fan events this year, has had to change plans due to COVID-19. The event usually features fans and developers alike, but will focus on an online only event that fans can stream from home.
Meanwhile, Bungie has made it easier for Destiny fans to complete the vinyl collection available on the official website. Previously sold separately, the bundle includes 4 of the vinyls now kept together in a package that includes the Crucible announcer Shaxx, the Redjack robotic soldier, a Vex Goblin, and a Sweeper Bot.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
