Square Enix’s MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 was not well received when it launched in 2010, leading to a complete overhaul that released in 2013 called A Realm Reborn. After that the game has grown exponentially, with Final Fantasy 14 hosting over 20 million players as of July. The seventh annual “The Rising” festival meant to celebrate this re-release will take place between August 27 and September 14.
All players above level 15 can take part in The Rising 2020, which is themed after a stained glass exhibition in the city of Ul’dah, according to the Final Fantasy 14 Developers’ Blog. Players will have to ensure the exhibit goes well for a character named J’Bhen Tia, and in return can receive two event-exclusive rewards.
The first reward is a stained-glass display based on a piece from the exhibit that Final Fantasy 14 players can put in their homes, depicting “the historic moment when Nanamo Ul Namo and her seven most trusted followers confronted a baying crowd and restored peace to the city,” according to the event’s webpage. The second is a wind-up toy version of the Final Fantasy 14 character Ardbert that serves as a Minion, or vanity pet, with a “quite interesting” animation.
Beyond those offerings in the main quest, players can also purchase festive items from a unique vendor through the duration of the event, and there will also be fireworks displays. According to the Developers’ Blog, the team wanted to really let fans enjoy themselves because, “Seven is often a lucky number,” especially during the year that Final Fantasy 7 Remake sold over 5 million units.
Final Fantasy 14 is available now on PC and PS4.
