Announced during today’s August Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase, the title is a direct sequel to 2017’s Puyo Puyo Tetris, and looks to be sharing most of its DNA with the original game but with a few additions. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is a sequel to Sega’s popular action puzzle game that combines Tetris with the Japanese puzzle game Puyo Puyo. When it was first released, Puyo Puyo Tetris was widely loved by both critics and fans alike and was praised for seamlessly mixing the two puzzles games into one with excellent gameplay, varied game modes, and some incredibly fun multiplayer modes.
In its announcement trailer, a new Skill Battle mode was revealed, which introduces character-based attacks and skills, and equippable item cards that will be sure to shake up gameplay in interesting and new ways. Alongside this addition, there will be a brand new adventure mode that tells a new story within the Puyo Puyo Tetris universe, with both new and returning characters.
This wasn’t the only title announced in today’s Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase, which many other games getting reveal trailers alongside it. Fans have already began seeing this, with Nintendo revealing first party titles Paper Mario: The Origami King and Pikmin 3 Deluxe through Twitter instead of Nintendo Directs, which is different for the company. Normally revealing all of its big titles during Nintendo Directs, it seems that the company has begun splitting its major game reveals between both social media and official Nintendo Direct mediums.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is slated to launch on December 8, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
