Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Trailer Reveals Villain

While it started as a leak, it is now fully confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the next Call of Duty game. It has also been officially confirmed by Activision that Cold War will have cross-play and progression between different consoles and console generations.

There have been many details leaked for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War by this point, and many of those were officially confirmed only recently. While the reveal trailer showed a lot of information about the singleplayer campaign, details are still scarce on multiplayer. It is known that there will be a Zombies mode, but not what new features will be brought to multiplayer proper.

While the full multiplayer gameplay reveal is set for September 9, players were treated to something special with the Gamescom Stream today. New footage for Cold War was dropped and it was not exactly what people were expecting. For starters, this game is a direct sequel to the original Call of Duty: Black Ops. The story took center stage in the form of a cutscene shown that takes place near the start of the game. The cutscene before the gameplay shows the Black Ops squad preparing to hunt down a mysterious Soviet spy named “Perseus.”

The mission was stated pretty explicitly to be off the books, which is no surprise. Perhaps more unexpected than “Perseus” though, was the appearance of a digital Ronald Reagan. Set in the 1980s cold war setting and backed by the U.S. president, it’s clear the campaign of Cold War will be expansive. What’s even crazier is that Cold War is set to launch in Fall of this year alongside Crash Bandicoot 4 and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2. This, plus the open beta available for pre-ordering the game, means Cold War will have few secrets for long.

All of this is not limited to the current generation of consoles either. It has been confirmed that Cold War is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X, although how close to the consoles’ releases is unclear. There is a cross-generation digital version available, which comes with both the current and next gen versions.

Unfortunately, there’s a catch when it comes to the next generation version of Cold War. The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Cold War will cost $70, and this includes the cross-generation version. This puts Cold War in the same camp as NBA 2K21 when it comes to pricing, and odds are it will not be the last game to do this. Hopefully this price hike does not become an industry standard in a time when microtransactions are still running rampant.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will release on November 13 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
