Call of Duty: Warzone has been a popular mode in the Modern Warfare reboot and it has added the trusted Call of Duty mechanics in a battle royale setting. Warzone has managed to frequently update and as a result, address issues and add new content for players to enjoy. Interestingly the game may have a longer lifespan than Modern Warfare which launched the mode. It has now been confirmed that the Battle Pass for Warzone will also operate on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Many will not be too surprised that Warzone appears to have a greater shelf-life than the Modern Warfare reboot. Design Director Geoff Smith had previously stated that Warzone would “evolve” with new iterations of the Call of Duty games and this seems to be the case. Activision has now given details about how the battle royale game will adapt when Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War hits the market and it will likely please fans who have spent a lot of time in the game mode.
The statement by Activision has stated that players will still be able to use the items that they have unlocked and purchased in Call of Duty: Warzone and the progress players have made will also be carried over. With that in mind, it seems that Warzone will likely continue to be an independent entity that borrows the features of the latest Call of Duty games. Furthermore, Warzone has been used effectively as a marketing tool for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War with hints about the upcoming title featuring in the gameplay. This means that the enjoyable game mode may continue to produce synergetic marketing as the franchise continues to progress.
The current season of Warzone has planted content for the next game, and many fans have enjoyed finding clues and getting content. With that in mind, the game will likely continue to be a free offering that also works as a marketing tool. However, the future of the game is intended to be confirmed by Activision at a later date and many will hope that the game manages to balance updates with its positive features.
The future of Warzone is set to be interesting and it appears to be a key part of the strategy behind the Call of Duty games. Many will hope that the game evolves and adds the best features of the next iterations in the series to provide an even better battle royale experience.
Call of Duty: Warzone is free-to-play for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
