EA has released more gameplay for the highly anticipated space shooter Star Wars: Squadrons at Gamescom. Focusing on a single player mission for the Imperial army, the gameplay was narrated by Narrative Producer Susanne Hunka, showcasing the wide cast of characters and types of missions Star Wars: Squadrons has to offer, including a new look at original trilogy character Wedge Antilles.
The first gameplay for Star Wars: Squadrons was revealed at EA Play back in June where it was revealed the game would be a 5v5 team based space shooter. Taking place after Return of the Jedi, players will take their pilots across a single player story and various multipayer missions with progression being tracked across all modes.
Earlier in the month, EA went over player and ship customization in Star Wars: Squadrons on the game’s official website. A range of cosmetics customizations will allow pilots to change their appearance, voice, and outfits in the game. In addition, the ships can be customized with paint jobs both internally and externally to a players liking. Pilots themselves can choose from different miniatures and trinkets to decorate the cockpit. Pilots will be able to apply different equipment to both the active and passive components within the ships internals. As progress is made in the game, different unlocks can be applied to primary weapons, auxiliary abilities, and countermeasures which players will actively use while on a mission.
With the recent success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, EA has indicated it will double down on the Star Wars IP. Fallen Order was positively received by reviewers and gamers alike with the game receiving a free DLC update from EA in May adding additional challenges and difficulties to the game. EA’s success with the Star Wars is not without a few hiccups however as the initial release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 was met with widespread criticism with the addition of microtransactions in the game. EA later rectified the matter by patching out the addition and changing the way players progress within the game.
Meanwhile, another anticipated Star Wars game, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, is in the news for a much different reason. Twitter user @Wario64 discovered a now deleted post on the official LEGO Store website indicating the game would miss its initial October release date and instead release in 2021. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the sixth entry in the series and will cover the entire film franchise from Episodes 1 through 9.
Star Wars Squadrons will launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 2.
