Apple Airpods Have a Case That’s Shaped Like a PS5 Controller

There are new AirPods paraphernalia available, and it’s been tailor-made for owners who double as PlayStation fans. The Apple headphones now have a holder in the shape of the upcoming PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, and it should appeal to those interested in having a quirky case for their AirPods.

For obvious reasons, the controller-based holder isn’t the same size as an actual PlayStation 5 controller. It’s much smaller than the DualSense but is still slightly larger than the original AirPods charging case. It’s also worth noting that the controller is a fully functional AirPods holder. It has a USB port at its bottom for charging, and users open the top of the case to place their headphones inside.

The case isn’t an official Apple product and instead comes by way of ProtoCart, a company based out in New Zealand that sells all kinds of quirky and unique items. Usually, the PS5 AirPods case costs $49.95. But, at the time of this writing, there’s a sale going on that puts the price tag at $19.95. There’s no indication of how long the sale lasts, and the cases are moving quickly, so anyone interested may wanna check it out as soon as they can.

AirPods Pro owners can use the PS5 charging case as well. The headphones won’t fit in any case but their own, so the designers behind the PS5 charging case made two versions of it to compensate. There’s one case for regular Airpods and one for the Pros. Potential buyers can select which ones they want before placing their orders.

The PS5 cases act as nice little substitutes until the real DualSense controller and PlayStation 5 release. When exactly this will happen remains a mystery, but the gaming system does have a release window of Holiday 2020. Aside from that, there’s not much information available right now for the next-generation console. There’s information available about the capabilities of the console and the controller, but Sony still hasn’t set a price for them yet.

Regarding the controller, Sony revealed it earlier in the year, and the company’s description of it makes it out to be different from any other controller that’s come before it. The controller has two primary features called Adaptive Triggers and Haptic Feedback, and each serves to help better immerse the player into whatever their playing. The Adaptive Triggers resist the user when they press down on the shoulder buttons, allowing them to simulate pulling a weapon trigger or pressing down on a gas pedal. The Haptic Feedback causes the controller to vibrate and pulse in unique ways, depending on the situation.
