Many Persona 5 fans have been waiting for a western release of Persona 5 Scramble ever since its original Japanese release back in February of this year. While it was very successful in sales, fans over in the west haven’t gotten any sort of official announcement regarding it being localized in any way.
However, fans now have some news that isn’t the subject of supposed leaks or inside info. This being the official US Trademark documentation for Persona 5 Scramble.
According to the documentation, this trademark was registered on August 25th, 2020 and was put out by SEGA of Japan. The application was additionally first filed back in December 11th, 2019, a few months before the Japanese release of the game.
The most notable information to be gleamed from these documents is how there is apparently going to be a change to Persona 5 Scramble‘s title for the western release. This updated title will be Persona 5 Strikers. It is likely derived from the game’s full title in Japan, Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers. The information also trademarks the usage of the acronym “P5S”.
Additionally, what appears to be the official logo for Persona 5 Scramble‘s western release is also shown in the documentation. It also reads the new name change mentioned previously.
This news is likely to restore hope in fans who thought that Scramble was never going to be released in the west. After all, this information wouldn’t likely exist if there were no active plans on localizing it in the first place. It’s unknown, however, why it took so long in between the application being first filed and it finally being registered recently.
For those who aren’t familiar with the premise of Persona 5 Scramble, it is a direct sequel to Persona 5. It is a crossover between Dynasty Warriors and Persona 5 in gameplay, similar to Nintendo’s own Hyrule Warriors for the Legend of Zelda series.
Persona 5 Scramble takes place 5 months after the events of Persona 5 with Joker and Morgana returning to Tokyo for summer vacation with the rest of the Phantom Thieves. However, they find that they need to go back in action once more after people start using an app called EMMA to control the hearts of others. From there, the group starts to travel over Tokyo to steal hearts and save the innocents of Japan once more from the corrupt.
All of the main Phantom Thieves are playable with even some new party members joining the group during their travels through Japan.
Persona 5: Scramble is out for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan.
