The PlayStation 5 is set to launch in just a few months and Sony still has a ton of information left to share with fans. Pricing, release date, and a finalized launch line-up are just a few of the big reveals remaining. As such, it’s no surprise that PlayStation fans are anxiously awaiting news regarding the next PS5 event. One unverified leak in particular is stirring up interest, as it claims to reveal the date of the next PS5 event as well as several of the announcements planned for the event.
To make clear, this leak is entirely unverified. It’s sourced to 4chan, meaning it could have been published by anyone for any reason. Nevertheless, the biggest reveal of the leak makes a lot of sense, that being that the next PS5 event will be on September 9. September 9, for those unfamiliar, is the anniversary of the release of the original PlayStation console in America. If the leak is faked, it still chose a date that makes a lot of sense.
But there’s a second reason why the leak makes at least some sense. One of the main reveals said to be at the event is the previously confirmed Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer reveal. The reveal is absolutely deserving of being showcased at a major showcase like a PS5 event. Activision and Sony also have a longstanding partnership for advertising for the Call of Duty franchise. It too makes a lot of sense, lending credence to the leak.
The leak goes on from there to detail several other planned reveals during the PS5 event, the biggest of which is the announcement of the PS5’s release date and price, as well as complete hardware, UI, and features breakdown. Specific details aren’t provided regarding these reveals, which might be somewhat suspicious. That said, the timing does seem right for these announcements. That’s especially true considering Sony is already confirmed to be preparing for PS5 pre-orders to come soon.
As for games, the leak claims that 10 games from the PS5’s launch line-up will be shown. They then list Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo 7, Demon’s Souls, Godfall, and Returnal as some of these launch titles. However, they also call these games first-party, which Godfall specifically isn’t.
Plenty more games will also be shown at the event, including Horizon Forbidden West and other game previously announced for the PS5. There’s also supposed to be a “big horror game” announced as a PS5 exclusive, which could be the rumored Silent Hill. And finally, Sony’s said to announce partnerships with 30 different games to offer timed exclusive content.
For now, the rumor is best treated with heavy skepticism. Luckily, PlayStation fans won’t have to wait long to find out if it’s true, as a September 9 event would very likely be announced in the next week. And even if it is false, Sony’s certain to share more PS5 info very soon.
