5 Hardest Encounters In Mortal Shell (& 5 Easiest Ones)

The difficulty of Mortal Shell should come as no surprise to the gaming community. It is heavily inspired by Dark Souls and other FromSoftware titles, and even other Souls-like games. One of the things that all of these games have in common is their unforgiving, unrelenting, hair-pullingly frustrating gameplay.

It’s difficult. These games are difficult. Mortal Shell is no different. Even the most minor of enemies can bring about a player’s end. Just running through a level can feel harrowing and any enemy the players will encounter can induce fear because all of them have the capacity to kill your character. This is not about the bosses of the game, this is about the enemies players encounter while roaming around the world. A lot of them are tough, they feel like mini-bosses, and a few of them are a welcome easy breeze.

10 Difficult: Sturdyman

The Sturdymen are among the first enemies players will encounter that will most certainly give them a hard time. These enemies are, hence their names, sturdy. They’re massive, they wield a massive halberd, and they inflict considerable damage.

These enemies are fairly difficult to stagger. They also have a wide reach so players will have to keep their distance or time their dodges right to avoid getting hit. On top of that, they’re also challenging to parry due to their unpredictable attack. They can also rush towards the players at a surprising speed, especially if they’re lured using the loot.

9 Easy: Brigand

The Brigands are very easy to deal with. The only thing that can make them formidable is their numbers. They can and will often times crowd around the players and they linger in groups. Other than that, dealing with this type of enemy shouldn’t be too laborious.

These enemies have a low health pool. One can be taken out with only one combo. Their attacks are also very predictable, making them an easy target to perform empowered ripostes in order to gain some health. Their strength can also be a weakness. Since they usually come in groups, if the player is wielding a long-reaching weapon, one swipe can damage multiple enemies and one combo can take out many of them at once.

8 Difficult: Blazing Herald

Blazing Heralds are no pushovers. They will feel like an actual mini-boss if taken on head-first, especially if a player’s weapon isn’t fully upgraded yet. These frustrating enemies move really fast, they have an unpredictable attack pattern, they have a massive health pool, and if those aren’t enough, they also inflict burn damage.

The Blazing Heralds have a wide array of different attack patterns in their arsenal. Players wouldn’t want to stay too far away from them too if they can help it, as these knights can close in to attack very quickly.

7 Easy: Sester Of The Order

The Sesters of the Order are the light breezes on an arguably challenging area. These enemies, although somewhat agile, are not as durable as the other enemies in the game. Their strength comes from their speed, but as long as players move in and attack them first, these enemies shouldn’t be much of a problem as they stagger really easily.

One thing players will have to watch out for when dealing with these types is when to parry them. Parrying the Sesters of the Order is very challenging. The timing window for this is very narrow, and players will have a better time dealing with them if they use harden instead.

6 Difficult: Acolyte Of Ignis

Players will stumble upon this broadsword-wielding knight at various areas in the game. They are slow-moving, but they hit incredibly hard. They are also not as easy to parry as other enemies and their combos can be lengthy.

While these enemies are tough and sturdy, one advantage players can have is that these enemies can be staggered easily. The best strategy to take when facing them is knowing when to strike and when to stay away. Their attacks usually have a predictable wind-up, and if players are confident enough, they can perform a parry-to-riposte. If not, they can simply wait for the attack to end so they can move in with their own combo.

5 Easy: Sublime Sester

The Sublime Sesters are more annoying and inconvenient rather than difficult. These gals wield a crossbow that can hit players from afar with considerable damage. That really is their only strength, though. The Sublime Sesters can be destroyed easily as they have very low defense. Their attacks also take a long time to wind up, so once they open themselves up after their attack, players will have a lot of time to move in to get rid of them.

Players should also be careful when closing in on the Sublime Sesters. They can use their crossbows as a melee weapon up close and will cause enough damage if they’re not eliminated immediately.

4 Difficult: Enslaved Disciple

This type of enemy is the perfect kind of terrifying in an area that exhumes horror. The Enslaved Disciples can be found within the Abandoned Chamber and beyond, and they are very difficult to deal with if players are not careful.

These horrifying creatures will inflict a ton of damage, especially if players will get caught up in one of their combos. One saving grace for players when dealing with the Enslaved Disciples is figuring out their attack patterns and knowing exactly when to parry. The window for this is marginally open and it will give players a much-needed upper hand.

3 Easy: Gragu

Gragus are armored, bulky-looking knights that wield shields and Morning Stars. These enemies may look formidable and intimidating, but they’re surprisingly very easy to get rid of. One thing the Gragus have going for them are their shields, which can block off attacks completely and may even cause the players to stagger. However, there’s a very easy way around this. If players find a way to get behind this enemy, they can be eliminated with only just a few swipes.

2 Difficult: Faceless Clerik

The Faceless Clerik is the first type of enemy the players will encounter when they reach the Eternal Narthex level. They’re the perfect type of enemy to greet the players as they step foot in this level. Much like the level they reside in, they’re massive, they look elegant, and they’re dangerous.

The Faceless Cleriks actually feel like actual bosses. They have a large health pool, they inflict a very high amount of damage, and their attacks are very intimidating. One advantage players have is that these guys are really slow-moving. They’re also easy to avoid and their attacks are easy to dodge, but once their attacks land, players will have a very unfortunate time.

1 Easy: Nocteserper

The Nocteserper will greet the players once they arrive at the Abandoned Chambers or when they backtrack while the mist is present. These enemies are weak, easy to get rid of, and their attacks are predictable enough to dodge away from without hassle. They do inflict poison damage, but if the player is carrying Tiel as their shell, this will only become an advantage.

This type of enemy can be eliminated with just a few attacks. Hardening is also very helpful when dealing with these creatures. They will often attempt to jump on the players to do a grab attack but will stagger back if the player is hardened.
