PlayStation Reaffirms Commitment to VR | Game Rant

The PlayStation 5 has, for the most part, been shrouded in mystery ever since it was first announced. Sony has been playing its cards close to its chest, and even the design of the PS5 alone wasn’t revealed until June of this year. Since then, even more questions and concerns have begun to surface regarding the console. However, Sony has now reaffirmed that one aspect of its hardware will definitely carry over.

It’s safe to say that PlayStation VR has become an integral part of gaming for many players. When it first launched on the PS4, many in the gaming community were impressed by what was accomplished. The VR component has offered many unique experiences in terms of the overall medium, especially for horror games like Resident Evil 7 VR.

Though, a growing concern among many in the gaming community was the possibility that the PS5 would not feature VR in any capacity. However, this concern went away quickly once Sony started filing patents that were in reference to PlayStation VR2. Now, according to a new corporate report, Sony has now begun to express its confidence in how well VR experiences will thrive on the PS5.

In a corporate report, Sony outlined how the company will create better experiences for users and will continue to “maintain the momentum” that VR had on the PS4. This hopefully in turn will “promote a smooth transition over to the PS5.” Considering that the PS VR made Sony over 2 billion dollars in sales overall, it’s no surprise the level of care and dedication the company is taking in order to make the next iteration of PS VR the best it can be.

In any case, it will be exciting to see what surprises Sony has in store for consumers. Given the impressive use of VR support for the upcoming Hitman 3, it will be nice to see what else Sony has to offer in terms of VR experiences on the PS5. While the gaming community still does not have a clear picture of what that will necessarily look like, it does seem like there will be plenty of advancements made to the new iteration of PS VR, due to what’s said in the corporate report.

Not many VR games have been confirmed for the PS5 and in fact, Sony still hasn’t announced whether the PS5 will feature a new headset or will just be backward compatible with the old headset. However, if the report is any guide, then the gaming community will surely see plenty of unique experiences come from PlayStation VR. With any luck, Resident Evil 8 will be one of them.

The PlayStation 5 is set to launch during the Holiday of 2020.
