Fans of Activision’s long-running Call of Duty franchise are currently waiting for its next entry to release on November 13, and today it was confirmed that Black Ops Cold War will have ray tracing support. Before then, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is continuing to see new content, with its latest playlist update adding multiple game modes across all platforms.
The base game for Modern Warfare received two playlists today, according to a Tweet by Infinity Ward: Boots on the Ground War, a variant of large-scale 32 v 32 battles with no lethal vehicles; and a brand-new mode called Search and Rescue that combines elements from the Kill Confirmed and Search and Destroy modes. Operation: Brimstone in Modern Warfare‘s Special Ops mode, which first released in November 2019, has also been modified.
Meanwhile, the battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone also received a playlist update today. Teams of four can now access the Plunder: Blood Money mode previously seen in June that lets players collect money for every kill they get, regardless of whether the opponent had anything. However, basic Plunder Quads has been removed to make room for this returning game mode.
Playlists being regularly cycled in and out of the game, with new modes like Search and Rescue sprinkled in over time, are just one way that Infinity Ward attempts to keep Modern Warfare fresh for its players from week to week. New limited-time cosmetics are also released in the Call of Duty Store on a regular basis, though this week the developers brought back Modern Warfare‘s popular Kawaii Cat Bundle for Mara.
More substantial updates are also constantly in development for both Modern Warfare and Warzone. Activision’s popular battle royale has received a particularly large amount of attention with new mechanics like subway stations seemingly in the works for Warzone, and it even served as the place where Black Ops Cold War was officially revealed to the world.
The highly-anticipated follow-up to 2010’s Call of Duty: Black Ops has started to dominate much of the conversation around the franchise, as many are looking forward to shaking things up with a new title by Treyarch and Raven Software now that the current entry has been out for over a year. However, that doesn’t mean Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is finished offering its fans content like playlist updates.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
