Valorant Might Not Get Agent Skins Because of One Issue

Since its release in June, Valorant has become increasingly popular as an FPS game. Players can use unique characters such as Agent Jett with special skills to defeat opponents, and some fans are hoping that Riot Games will add skins specifically for these Agents. However, there may be an issue that keeps this from becoming a reality.

Valorant has a way to change the cosmetic appearance of some aspects of the game — namely, the weapons that Agents fight with. Players with Valorant Points can use the in-game currency to purchase skin bundles and upgrade the weapon cosmetics they already own. Fans would like to be able to do this with Agents themselves, but there’s one thing holding Riot Games back from making this a reality.

The Riot Games development team recently spoke about the direction that they will be taking with cosmetics in the game, and the topic of Agent skins was brought up. Valorant Senior Producer Dexter Yu said that this was something that the team was actively looking into, and Riot Games has shown that they are not against skins with the many that the company has created for its first game League of Legends.

Yu also affirmed that the developer is aware that Agent skins are something that the game’s fanbase would like to see, and while Riot Games would also like to give fans cosmetics for the characters, there is one thing holding the developer back — a potential impact on competitive integrity.

Yu said that the development team is worried that Agent skins could potentially impact Valorant gameplay, and this fear isn’t unfounded. Other games like Apex Legends have given players access to skins that alter the character’s hitbox so that opponents would have a much more difficult time taking down players using that specific skin. Due to this issue, Riot Games is currently looking for a compromise so that the game can give Agents a fresh new look without negatively impacting the gameplay.

While Agent skins may one day come to Valorant, it’s going to take Riot Games more time to figure out how to implement this cosmetic system in the game. In the meantime, Riot Games may have its hands full with fixing glitches that players have found recently while they’ve  been playing the game. Once the developer is finished with that, it will have more time to plan out how the new skin system may be introduced to the game.
