Will FromSoftware Show More of Elden Ring in 2020? | Game Rant

With each gaming event this year, Elden Ring fans are clamoring to hear news about the upcoming FromSoftware title. Since its reveal, fans have gone over a year without hearing any substantial news about the game’s progress or release date. As if all that wasn’t bad enough, there are rumors abound about the title that all seem to conflict one another, placing fans in a perpetual state of uncertainty. In times such as this, all players can do is look towards the future, but unfortunately the rest of 2020 isn’t looking good for news either.

The lack of news about Elden Ring is basically becoming a meme at this point. Fans on the official subreddit make jokes about going hollow while waiting for the game and yet neither Bandai Namco nor FromSoftware have made any statements. Looking forward, 2020 is coming to a close soon, and fans are running out of events to place their hope in. To save their humanity, Elden Ring fanatics are going to need to set their expectations low, as all signs seem to be pointing towards the game being a lot further away than most had anticipated.

The most recent big video game event was Gamescom, which took place at the end of August. Despite warnings from developers, industry insiders, and other fans, Elden Ring proponents flooded the chat with requests for the game to at least be mentioned. It got so bad that Gamescom had to actually ban the phrase Elden Ring from chat. While this was effective at moderating the chat and decluttering things a bit, it also served a serious blow to those who were hoping that it would make an appearance at the show. With Gamescom over and September now begun, there aren’t many opportunities for Elden Ring news to be announced this year.

At this point, all eyes are on the Tokyo Game Show, but Elden Ring has already been confirmed not to make an appearance at that show either. Bandai Namco will be there, but its entire schedule has been released and Elden Ring was not among the showings. Technically speaking, anything could change before then and Elden Ring could show up, but after numerous disappointments, fans have learned to not get their hopes up. There was some speculation that it could be shown at the Xbox showcase at TGS, but Microsoft has since come forward and dashed that hope by saying no new next gen games would be shown.

That said, there are still plenty of other events happening around the world throughout the rest of the year, some small, some big, most of them digital. It’s difficult to say what the likelihood of Elden Ring making an appearance at any of these events are, but perhaps the most notable one to look out for is PAX Online, starting September 12th and running for several days straight. Beyond that, players will need to keep their ear to the ground and see if anymore major events are announced like PS5 or Xbox Series X events.

Ultimately, fans are probably going to have to come to terms with no Elden Ring news coming this year. It is strange that the game was announced so early if it was so far away, but the same thing has happened with other titles such as The Elder Scrolls 6. There’s no guarantee that it won’t pop up at some event for the remainder of this year, but it does seem as though the odds are slim given how little time is left this year.

Elden Ring is currently in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
