The cartoonish battle royale Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has been wildly successful for developer Mediatonic and publisher Devolver Digital, and its momentum is likely to continue as Fall Guys releases a free Season 2 Pass in October based on medieval fantasy tropes with new maps, character skins, and more. Given the potential for content to be added in the future, some fans have taken to creating their own ideas for Fall Guys minigames.
One such fan is Ross O’Donovan, noted animator and voice actor with ties to the popular YouTube channel Game Grumps. O’Donovan has spent months working on a custom Super Mario Maker 2 world while streaming on Twitch, and posed the idea of Fall Guys getting its own stage builder earlier today. Then, he followed up that Twitter post with sketches for three possible Fall Guys minigames.
The first, and arguably most complicated idea is called “Yeehaw-Seesaw,” in which two teams of six players are put on either side of a seesaw and have to prevent a heavy ball from pushing them into hazardous slime while weights fall from the sky. The second idea is “Slimecano,” in which players have to survive atop an erupting volcano for a set amount of time; while the third is a version of Fall Guys‘ Roll Out game with more hazards called “Toddler Wreck.”
Adding new mechanics into the game for the sake of different challenges would not be unprecedented given what Mediatonic has revealed about Fall Guys Season 2. Earlier today, the game’s Twitter account teased a “chaotic neutral” feature called Big Yeetus — essentially a giant spinning hammer that can appear randomly in levels, either as a boon or an obstacle.
Though many players have taken to social media with admiration for Fall Guys in the form of custom outfit ideas and fan art, O’Donovan is not alone in wanting to take a deeper look at the battle royale’s level design. Some fans have been designing and remaking Fall Guys games in Epic Games’ Fortnite, Media Molecule’s Dreams, and other creative sandboxes.
Some may find O’Donovan’s ideas too aggressive, particularly one self-labeled “Toddler Wreck.” However, sadistic design is something the creator has become known for with Mario Maker levels, and the Fall Guys Twitter responded to his ideas with a shifty-eyed gif. O’Donovan has also been in the limelight as of late for eating 999 eggs in the MMO Final Fantasy 14, and for speaking out against a recent Burger King ad campaign taking advantage of Twitch streamers.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is available now for PC and PS4.
