New Division 2 Summit Mode Asks Teams to Survive in a Skyscraper

Releasing early last year, The Division 2 has had a mixed time in the gaming space, with the sequel amassing some great reviews at launch but slowly but surely losing steam along the way. Criticisms aside, the game did manage to win back many of its detractors with some significant new content added in March this year, with the devs bringing a surprise DLC titled Warlords of New York to the multiplayer experience.

Six months later, the next major piece of content coming to The Division 2 has been announced, with Massive Entertainment revealing a new game mode titled Summit in its recent State of the Game stream. The mode has been touted by many as The Division meets The Raid, with players ascending a 100 story Skyscraper while battling waves of enemies and increasingly difficult bosses.

According to Massive Entertainment, the way the mode works is that each floor houses varying levels of randomly generated enemies, with players slowly but surely working their way through the building as the difficulty grows harder. Every 10th floor will come with a boss which, when conquered, unlocks a “rally point” that allows players to ride the elevator up to that point on their next game. This means that returning players looking for certain levels of content will be able to jump to whatever difficulty they please rather than having to ascend a series of less brutal corridors, with veteran Division members advised to head directly to floors 80 or above on their second run. It seems the goal is to also make it endlessly replayable, with the devs promise the mode’s dynamic enemy placement means it’ll be a “fresh experience” for players every time.

Those thinking that the mode sounds somewhat familiar are likely thinking of the first Division’s Underground mode, which saw players venture through the tunnels under New York City. Much like Summitthese areas were randomly generated, essentially allowing players to have a new experience every time they hopped into the popular mode. Fans have been asking for something similar to hit The Division 2, and it seems Massive Entertainment was more than happy to oblige.

Although the new additional content didn’t receive a release date during the live stream, it seems wise to imagine that it’ll be coming reasonably soon. Massive announced, after all, that the mode would be hitting the PC-exclusive player test that’s taking place tomorrow, so it’s likely very closer to completion. According to the devs, it’ll be free to all owners of the Warlords of New York expansion pack.

The Division 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
