Nintendo pleasantly surprised the world today when it dropped a surprise Nintendo Direct in honor of Mario’s 35th anniversary. Of the many exciting announcements made during that event, the reveal of Super Mario 3D All-Stars is generating a ton of hype and fans are freaking out about it on social media platforms.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a collection of 3D Mario games ported over to the Nintendo Switch under one handsome label. The games included are Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. With an amazing line up such as that, it’s not surprise that fans are speaking out in support.
To make matters better, this amazing collection releases in just about two weeks on September 18th, meaning fans won’t even have to wait that long for it. Some other announcements from the Nintendo Direct were 2021 announcements that still feel very far away, but Super Mario All-Stars 3D will be available for fans before they know it.
Twitter in particular is abuzz with fans in a state of disbelief. Though recent leaks purported that a 3D Mario collection like this would be coming, many fans brushed it off as wishful thinking or simply unlikely. Until today, it seemed that was true, as Nintendo had made no announcements about porting any old Mario games to the Switch. After the surprise direct revealed Super Mario All-Stars 3D, fans took to Twitter to share their joy. The phrase “It’s Real” and permutations of it can be found all over, and the excitement is almost palpable.
Super Mario 64 was the game that started it all in terms of 3D Mario, and to this day still has a huge following and player base in the form of speed runners. Along a similar vein, Super Mario Sunshine was something of a cult classic, but has been on the top of fans’ lists for a Switch port for a while now. Finally, Super Mario Galaxy introduced beloved new characters such as Rosalina and Luma and has its own loyal fan base. Essentially, this collection is a win/win for everyone, and it is great to see Nintendo capitalizing on its more popular titles.
It seems that Nintendo knew exactly what it was doing as well, as it saved this reveal for the very end of the Nintendo Direct. With all of the chatter surrounding this game, fans will want to act quick once it releases on the 18th, as Super Mario 3D All-Stars will only be available for purchase until March of 2021.
