Appearing in every entry in the series, staff wielders are one of the most integral types of support units players have access to, capable of restoring lost life to a player’s other units. So today, we’re going to examine the healers of Fire Emblem‘s past and explore the top ten most useful staff users the franchise has to offer!

10 Marianne – Three Houses

While Fire Emblem: Three Houses rebranded its healing magic as Faith, rather than staves, healers in Three Houses function in such a similar fashion that they are allowed on this list. No matter which house a player chooses in Three Houses, they are given access to a unit who excels in healing.

Players who start with the Golden Deer house immediately have access to Marianne, the best healer in Three Houses. Possessing a high growth rate in magic, Marianne has one of the most useful faith spell lists in the game, having access to spells such as Physic and Silence. Marianne can even hold her own as an offensive unit, learning the excellent combat art, Frozen Lance.

9 Clarine – The Binding Blade

One of the earliest healers available in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, unlike characters of the cleric class, Clarine has the benefit of a mount. This allows Clarine to easily be positioned wherever she’s needed to flexibly heal party members. Additionally, as Clarine is recruited in Chapter Four, she is reliably usable throughout the vast majority of The Binding Blade.

8 Priscilla – The Blazing Blade

Priscilla from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade is the perfect example of a consistently useful healing unit in Fire Emblem. Joining a player’s army in Chapter Fourteen (the fourth chapter of Eliwood’s story), Priscilla is able to wield useful staves as soon as she becomes available.

As a troubadour, Priscilla is incapable of attacking until she promotes. Despite this, her class provides her with the utility of a mount, allowing her to move great distances to heal allies and even rescue units when in a pinch.

7 Ethlyn – Genealogy Of The Holy War

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is often regarded for its immense map sizes. Because of this factor, mounted units are all the more valuable. Playable in the game’s first generation, is a reliably accessible troubadour. In addition to being a mobile healer in the earliest chapters of Genealogy, sustaining one’s forces, Ethlyn wields the powerful Light Brand. This allows her to contribute to safely contribute to combat from up to two tiles away.

6 Mist – Path Of Radiance And Radiant Dawn

The younger sister of Ike, Mist is an excellent healer in both Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and its sequel, Fire Emblem: Radiant DawnWhile her base stats and growth rates differ between these games, Mist’s utility is nearly identical in each game. Joining a player’s army early into Path of Radiance and at the beginning of Part Three of Radiant Dawn, Mist first appears as a slightly below average and under-leveled healer. However, in both games, upon promoting, Mist becomes a Valkyrie. This is paramount, as Mist is the only playable Valkyrie in both games, with Valkyrie being the only mounted healing class outside of Queen (princess Crimea in Path of Radiance).

5 Lena – Shadow Dragon

By in large the best healer in Fire Emblem: Shadow DragonLena joins a player’s army with a C rank in staves while already wielding the immensely powerful Warp Staff. This means that from the word go, Lena can use many of the most useful staves in the game whilst already coming equipped with one of the very best. As if this weren’t enough, Lena is the only character in Shadow Dragon capable of wielding the Hammerne staff, allowing her to repair other units’ damaged equipment!

4 Silque – Shadows Of Valentia

The primary healer of Alm’s route of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, Silque has a remarkable spell list. While Silque only knows Nosferatu and Recover when she’s first recruited, she has the distinction of learning Warp at level seven.

Unlike in other entries in the series in which the warp staff has a limited amount of uses, as Warp is a learned spell in Shadows of Valentia, Silque possesses this incredible utility indefinitely once she reaches level seven.

3 Pent – The Blazing Blade

Though Pent may join a player’s army further into a game than the majority of the other entrants of this list, his combination of power, flexibility, and utility cannot be understated. A pre-promoted sage who joins a player’s army in Chapter 22 of Eliwood’s story in The Blazing Blade, Pent joins a player’s army with stellar base stats and an A rank in both anima magic and staves. This allows Pent to reliably wield nearly any staff in the game without any investment or effort required from a player!

2 Safy – Thracia 776

One of the earliest available healers in Thracia 776, Safy’s early recruitment paired with her high staff rank makes her an incredible staff user. Immediately able to wield both the Hammerne staff and the Warp staff, Safy can reposition units, repair equipment, and heal injured allies throughout nearly all of Thracia 776. Between excellent availability and utility, it’s hard to find a reason not to use Safy.

1 Elincia – Path Of Radiance And Radiant Dawn

A central figure in the plots of both Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, Elincia has the extraordinary distinction of being a flying unit with staff utility. In both games in which she is playable, Elincia joins a player’s army with an A rank in staves, allowing her to access the outstanding combination of Physic, flying movement, and canto.

While this in itself lands Elincia a high position on this list, she even has access to her phenomenal personal weapon, the Amiti.
