With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War set to debut its multiplayer on September 9, it seems the upcoming game wants to keep some things in the dark about its multiplayer until it’s ready to fully reveal them. Instead, Activision has spent a lengthy amount of time highlighting the title’s single-player campaign, announcing that it will allow players to create a custom avatar and make choices that impact the story’s conclusion.
However, it seems one of the game’s upcoming multiplayer modes has just been let slip by Twitch streamer DougisRaw, who accidentally showed off a few minutes of the game in a recent broadcast. Although Activision has been quickly removing videos showing the footage online, it seems users on Reddit, YouTube, and other prevalent social media sites have already spread it too far to be entirely claimed.
The footage in question (which we can’t include in this post) takes place in Miami, beginning with the player selecting their loadout with a backdrop of some striking, neon-lit bars and hotels. DougisRaw takes in an XM4 assault rifle and a Gallo Sa12 shotgun, however, as is expected from Call of Duty, the player is able to establish 5 custom loadouts alongside the game’s preset ones. The pre-game screens slowly transition into a cutscene, with a team of players sitting in the back of a van as it hurtles through the streets of Miami. The match then begins, with the objective seeing the team having to prevent an enemy VIP from reaching an extraction point.
There are some noticeable differences here from most Call of Duty multiplayer modes, however. For one, opponents now sport big red health bars dictating how much damage they’ve received, while players only seem to get one life per round, with DougisRaw dying early and spectating a teammate until the first of his two matches ended. Each game concludes with a “best play” cap off, which showcases an impressive kill from some point during the round.
Overall, the multiplayer looks to be a lot more fast-paced than most Call of Duty games, seeing players jump between quick, action-packed matches on the fly. Of course, there will surely be more detail away from the low res leaked gameplay available next week, when Activision reveals more about Cold War‘s multiplayer and what players can expect when the game launches in November. For now though, this is definitely an intriguing first insight into the shooter’s online elements.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to release on November 13 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
