Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory – Every Confirmed Music Track So Far

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory may seem like a simple rhythm game spin-off to some, but fans are still very excited for its release. Aside from continuing the narrative and possibly setting up future plot developments, it looks to be a celebration of the franchise’s incredible library of music.

Melody of Memory will come with over 140 songs from across the whole series, from the original Kingdom Hearts to the more recent Kingdom Hearts 3. Most of of the game’s soundtrack is still a mystery, but we know quite a few music tracks already. After scouring every trailer and both the English and Japanese official websites, here all 42 songs that have been confirmed, in alphabetical order, as well as their origins and how some of them will be featured.

Each world in the Kingdom Hearts series has a unique field theme which plays when Sora is exploring his surroundings. In case the name of the track didn’t give it away, this track is from the Aladdin world, Agrabah, which first appeared in the first game.

In MoM, it will serve as one of the Field Battles, where a party of three battles waves of enemies in time to the music.

Another field theme from the first game, this plays whilst visiting Monstro, the giant whale from Pinocchio that managed to escape its world’s destruction and drift through the space between worlds.

Every world also has their own battle theme, used for when Sora and friends engage enemies like the Heartless in battle. All for One comes from 3DS title Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and plays in Country of the Musketeers, a world based on the direct-to-video movie Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers.

This will be used for a Field Battle and is, so far, the only confirmed Dream Drop Distance track.

This track technically first appeared in the first game’s secret ending, but it received a slight remake for Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and served as the backdrop for that game’s final boss fight between Roxas and Riku.

In MoM, it’s another Field Battle, though one with Roxas fighting regular enemies alongside his friends, Axel and Xion, so boss tracks won’t always be associated with boss battles in this game.

Agrabah’s battle theme from the first Kingdom Hearts will also be making an appearance. Both it and its field theme received remade versions when the world returned in Kingdom Hearts 2, but we don’t know if those versions will be included.

A battle theme from the first game, this only appears on Destiny Islands during the optional fights against Riku, Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie at the beginning of the game.

Kingdom Hearts 2′s final boss music. This played during Sora and Riku’s last battle with Xemnas. While that fight had multiple phases, only the final phase has been recreated for one of MoM‘s boss battles and sees Sora teaming up with Donald and Goofy instead to battle Xemnas. Seeing Sora redoing this fight in his attire from the first game is also a tad surreal.

Dearly Beloved has appeared in every game to date, with a new rendition always playing on the main menu screen. MoM is no exception and will have a much jazzier and upbeat version of the song for its main menu. Whether it or any of the previous versions of the track will appear in the main game itself is unknown.

Another recurring piece of music, Destati has made regular appearances in other music tracks as well. It first appeared in the original Kingdom Hearts during the opening Dive into the Heart segment, specifically for the few fights that took place.

It will be used for a Field Battle and, interestingly, the version included in MoM appears to be from the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour album, which suggests that music won’t just be drawn from the games.

The first song confirmed for the game, Destiny Islands is that world’s field theme from the first game and will appear as a Field Battle.

Another final boss track, Dismiss plays in prequel game Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Specifically, it’s used when Aqua fights Terra-Xehanort in Radiant Garden. In MoM, it will be a Field Battle and has Aqua, alongside Ventus and Terra, battling waves of Unversed.

Hercules world Olympus Coliseum from the first game functioned very differently to the other worlds, as battles only took place in tournament matches, usually accompanied by this piece of music. Fittingly, it will be a Field Battle track.

However, while this world has made frequent appearances in the series, it has never been exactly the same. In Kingdom Hearts 2, the Underworld was a brand new area and even replaced the tournament battles. And in Kingdom Hearts 3, the tournaments were no longer a thing, with players able to explore the town of Thebes and climb Mount Olympus. These new areas also got new music, so will any of those tracks feature in MoM as well?

Another battle theme from the first game, this one plays in Traverse Town. Funnily enough, players don’t hear this track until the second visit to Traverse Town, as it doesn’t play during any of the battles from Sora’s first visit.

The first character theme on the list, this track will play during a Memory Dive. Instead of fighting enemies, players will have Sora glide past cutscenes associated with the track from previous games. So, in this instance, Kairi I will be accompanied by scenes of Kairi herself.

This track comes from the first game and came in three different versions. It’s likely that the first version will be the only one included, as it’s the most recognized one and was used as Kairi’s theme in Kingdom Hearts 2 as well, but that’s not confirmed.

Twilight Town’s field theme, this track first appeared in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, but in MoM, it’s listed as a Kingdom Hearts 2 track. This is possibly because Twilight Town is more associated with KH 2, as it’s a very important location in that game’s story. Twilight Town actually has two field themes in that game, with this one playing during the prologue section with Roxas.

As the most iconic and popular song from Frozen, it was guaranteed to make an appearance when Arendelle was confirmed as a world for Kingdom Hearts 3Said sequence will feature as one of the Memory Dives and its inclusion confirms that other Disney songs will likely appear too. Considering a lot of Disney’s films are musicals, it would be insane not to put some of them in a game all about music.

This is also the only track from KH 3 confirmed for the game, though we can definitely expect more. Fans also have Kingdom Hearts 3‘s official soundtrack to look forward to when it releases in November, the same month as MoM.

French for “Music for the sadness of Xion,” this is Xion’s character theme from 358/2 Days, where she made her debut. It breaks the trend of most character themes simply sharing the name of the associated character, though it’s incredibly fitting given Xion’s entire backstory and her eventual fate in that game. At least she got a happy ending in Kingdom Hearts 3.

One of only two Chain of Memories tracks confirmed so far, which isn’t too odd considering most of that game’s soundtrack was reused from the first game. In case it wasn’t obvious, this is Naminé’s character theme. Expect this and all of the other character themes to be Memory Dives.

Destiny Island’s actual battle theme from the first game, which first plays when the island is attacked by the Heartless, and then later reused in Chain of Memories. It also gets some use as Traverse Town’s initial battle theme and appears for the Ursula boss fight at the beginning of Dream Drop Distance.

This is the field theme for Olympus Coliseum in the first game.

In Kingdom Hearts 2, Atlantica from The Little Mermaid served as the series’ first foray into rhythm action. It wasn’t very popular and is regarded as one of the series’ low points, thanks to a mixture of fans’ dislike of the shift in gameplay and the awful original songs made for it.

This section did feature two songs straight from the original movie; Part of Your World being one of them.

This track technically first appeared in Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix as the music for the secret boss fight against the Lingering Will. But since this was a Japan exclusive until the HD re-releases, Western players didn’t get to hear it until it was revamped for a boss fight in Birth by Sleep.

In that game, it played when players actually took control of the Lingering Will itself and fought Terra-Xehanort, who served as the final boss of Terra’s story. In MoM, it looks to be another Field Battle, one set in the Keyblade Graveyard.

Riku’s character theme, which first appeared in Kingdom Hearts 2, is included.

Obviously, this is Roxas’ character theme, which also debuted in Kingdom Hearts 2. Hopefully, the battle remix of it, The Other Promise, will be included as well.

The battle theme for the Pride Lands, the Lion King world, in Kingdom Hearts 2, and another Field Battle track. KH 2 is the only game where Simba appears as a party member, as all of his other appearances have had him as a summon.

In that game, Sora had to transform into a lion himself when visiting the world, though that won’t be the case in MoM.

The battle theme for Hollow Bastion from the first game. This is another Field Battle and, much like the first game, will see Sora joined by the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. It’s so far the only original Kingdom Hearts world to have a unique party member who’s a Disney character.

In MoM, Beast could be the only Disney party member, aside from Donald and Goofy, to appear in more than one world, as his home world of Beast’s Castle could feature as well.

It would be criminal to not have this song, as it’s the first game’s theme song and one of the most iconic songs from the whole franchise. It’s inclusion also means Utada Hikaru’s other vocal tracks will probably appear as well; namely Sanctuary from Kingdom Hearts 2 and Face My Fears and Don’t Think Twice from Kingdom Hearts 3.

This Kingdom Hearts 2 track looks to be a Field Battle set in that game’s version of Hollow Bastion. However, in KH 2, it only played during a small handful of battles, though it’s probably best known for accompanying the Battle of 1000 Heartless.

Much like Riku, Sora didn’t get his own theme music until Kingdom Hearts 2. Fans will remember it from the scene when Sora awakens from the pod he was placed in at the end of Chain of Memories.

Terra’s character theme from Birth by Sleep is also included. Unlike other character themes, this one has accompanied a boss battle, specifically the one against Master Eraqus.

The second of the two confirmed Chain of Memories tracks, this plays during boss fights against members of Organization XIII. It was brought back for select fights in Kingdom Hearts 2 and even reappears in Kingdom Hearts 3 during the battle with Luxord at the Keyblade Graveyard.

As we mentioned earlier, Twilight Town in Kingdom Hearts 2 has two field themes. This is the second one and plays when in control of Sora, after clearing Roxas’ prologue section.

The Encounter is a recurring track from Kingdom Hearts 2, reserved for select boss fights with Disney villains, like Oogie Boogie and Scar. The version included in MoM, though, is from Birth by Sleep, where it serves the same role.

In MoM, it will play during a boss fight against Maleficent. In fact, it’s a recreation of her fight in BbS, set inside her castle, though this time players are controlling Sora instead of Ventus.

Another battle theme from the first game, this track plays in Wonderland from Alice in Wonderland.

Traverse Town’s field theme from the first game is included.

The other classic Little Mermaid song to appear in the series. While this song appears in full in Kingdom Hearts 2, it looks as if MoM will be including the instrumental version from the first game, where it’s used as Atlantica’s field theme.

This 358/2 Days track plays during the final phase of Roxas’ battle with Xion aka one of the most tragic moments in the entire series. Fortunately, players won’t have to relive forcing Roxas to slay one of his best friends, as it appears as a Field Battle in MoM.

Ventus’ character theme from Birth by Sleep is included, and though it hasn’t been confirmed, Aqua’s theme music will most definitely be included too.

First appearing in Kingdom Hearts 2, this track has popped up in other games since during certain fights. In MoM, it will serve as a Field Battle in the Land of Dragons aka the Mulan world. This is probably because its first appearance was during the boss fight with Shan-Yu, that film’s main villain.

This track comes from Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-the bonus game in the 2.8 collection that served as a prologue of sorts to Kingdom Hearts 3. It plays during the first phase of the final boss fight against the Demon Tide. Hopefully, the music for the second phase will be included too.

Wonderland’s field theme from the first game.

A battle theme first heard in Kingdom Hearts 2, this music is used for both Twilight Town and the Mysterious Tower, home of the wizard and former Keyblade master Yen Sid. In MoM, it will serve as a Field Battle set in Twilight Town.

That still leaves at least 100 songs that haven’t been confirmed, and a few games that aren’t represented yet, like Kingdom Hearts Re: coded and Union Cross.

More songs may be revealed at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. If so, we’ll be sure to update this article to reflect any new information.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will release on November 13th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
