Media Molecule Co-Founder Stepping Away From Game Development

Media Molecule is a studio that has put out numerous memorable experiences for players to enjoy. While Dreams is the company’s current flagship title, the studio first came into success and popularity thanks to the LittleBigPlanet series. Though, sadly as the development team continues to work on additional content and features for Dreams, the studio had to say goodbye to one of the founding members of Media Molecule.

While Media Molecule has only produced eight games, each one of those games were well received by the gaming community. LittleBigPlanet remains to this day an iconic and influential piece of gaming history. However, one of the people responsible for the creation of the studio has decided to step down.

Earlier today, founding member of Media Molecule, Alex Evans, decided to leave the development studio in pursuit of other career opportunities unrelated to game development. Evans goes on to explain that this decision was made during of period of “soul searching” while under lockdown. Evans served as technical director of the second LittleBigPlanet game.

Evans accomplished a lot at Media Molecule and was directly involved with the development of Dreams. While his departure is rather unexpected, he wished the team at Media Molecule the best of luck and went on to say that the studio is working on big things for Dreams. This could be in reference to the VR compatibility that will soon be added to Dreams.

It is sad to see such an important member of a prominent game studio step down, but that doesn’t mean the work has to stop. As Evans goes on to say, he is now a Dreams fan, instead of a Dreams developer. Regardless, it seems like both the studio and Dreams will continue to gain further popularity and success, such as Media Molecule winning a game of the year award for Dreams.

In any case, it will be exciting to see what else Media Molecule has in store for the multitude of users populating the world of Dreams. In fact, there are also talks of Media Molecule considering a PC port of Dreams. If these rumors prove to be true, then this will give all sorts of people the opportunity to experience all that Dreams and Media Molecule have to offer. With any luck, these rumors will actually hold water and allow more players to enjoy the game.
