Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is only days away from its multiplayer reveal, and while this event isn’t going to require a massive easter egg hunt in Warzone, it should be providing players with a bit more than a two minute trailer. Multiplayer for Black Ops Cold War will be shown at 10 AM PT on September 9th across Twitch.
The time was confirmed by the official Call of Duty Twitter account, with the additional description providing the plan to show off the “new maps, modes and experiences” of Black Ops Cold War. It was also confirmed that “the biggest streamers in the world” are going to “come together with Call of Duty developers” to show off the game. This is a bit ironic considering a streamer was responsible for leaking seven minutes of Black Ops Cold War multiplayer recently, but the logic behind this type of reveal is clear.
Showcasing the game this way makes sense, as it will allow for varied gameplay from different perspectives and with different loadouts. Different Black Ops Cold War multiplayer perks, which also leaked recently, can be shown off through this reveal setup as well. How long the game will be streamed for is unclear at this time, though YouTube breakdowns of the Twitch streams and maybe even more gameplay can be expected after the event ends.
What modes will be shown off in the multiplayer reveal was also not shared, though Black Ops Cold War’s leaked VIP extraction mode seems like a strong candidate for the event. The mode will be round-based and only allow one life per round, however, meaning something like Team Deathmatch or Domination will likely be shown too so that players can get a feel for the classic arcade shooter gameplay CoD is known for. Whether the reveal event shows any new Warzone gameplay is unclear but seems unlikely given the event’s focus being kept purely on traditional multiplayer.
Regardless, it will be exciting to finally get some answers on the massive, vehicle-filled desert map from the end of the game’s reveal trailer. Traditional Call of Duty gameplay is clearly a thing based on the recently leaked Black Ops Cold War footage, so how exactly that clip plays into the overall collection of content remains to be seen. Considering how different that gameplay was from the leaked footage, perhaps the desert map is part of an entirely different mode like Ground War from Modern Warfare or even War from Call of Duty: WW2.
Considering that Call of Duty WW2 may have leaked Black Ops Cold War’s beta start date, it would be interesting to see another connection between the two games. Black Ops Cold War is more likely to follow the path laid by Modern Warfare than take inspiration from WW2, though. Fans are only a few days away from getting answers on the desert map in the September 9th reveal, and now they know to be ready at 10 AM PT for an official look at the game’s online play.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available November 13th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upgrades will also be available.
