The Legend of Zelda: The 5 Best Outfits Across All Games (& The 5 Worst)

The Legend of Zelda series offers some of the most memorable character designs in gaming history. While the characters themselves have undergone changes over the decades, Nintendo has also kept the series spruced up with outfits. Among NPCs, villains, and the hero, Link, players can find many costumes to appreciate in the series.

As a disclaimer, this will focus on the mainline Legend of Zelda series. This will not include spin-offs such as Hyrule Warriors Legends which features some of the best looking designs in the series’ history. This will also omit some of the cute, charming, and ridiculous outfits featured in Tri Force Heroes for 3DS.

10 Best: Breath of the Wild – Zelda’s White Dress

Princess Zelda wears several outfits in Breath of the Wild. Among them include her researcher’s clothes, the royal dress, and the winter outfit. Out of these, however, the white dress is perhaps her best look.

It’s simple, comfortable, and elegant. It brings out the essence of the Goddess Hylia similarly to the white dress Zelda wore in Skyward Sword. Zelda looks absolutely beautiful in her standard white dress.

9 Worst: Majora’s Mask – Tingle

This 35-year-old man pretends to be a fairy in the woods. He’s managed to become a great map writer yet his father is still ashamed of him. While cosplay is for all ages and sizes, Tingle certainly knows how to sport it in the worst possible way.

How one man can create so much rage across the Zelda fanbase might even mystify Nintendo. If his weird outfit and mannerisms don’t turn people off, then maybe his greed will. Coupled with seeing his face more often than anyone wants to, Tingle charges a premium to decipher maps in The Wind Waker.

8 Best: Majora’s Mask – Fierce Deity Link

This killer outfit comes from collecting all the masks in the game. Upon claiming the reward, the player will go up against Majora in a final duel. Utilizing the mask, they’ll grow and transform into a powerful hero.

This light-colored tunic is donned with black tights and armor. Accompanying it includes a double-helix sword that is far and away the series’ most powerful weapon. All the power that comes with the Fierce Deity Mask makes the outfit all the more awe-inspiring. Plus players can take the mask into dungeons in order to fight the bosses while equipped with it.

7 Twilight Princess – Falbi and Fyer

While Tingle missed his place in Twilight Princess his replacements did not. Falbi and Fyer run their own mini-games in Lake Hylia. Yet having to come up to them forces the player to view an eyesore.

Their gut extends over their pants while they wear the brightest, tackiest outfits available in Hyrule.  Thankfully the player needs only visit them a few times to get a Heart Piece. They will never have to play Flight-by-Fowl and see them ever again.

6 Best: Breath of the Wild – Champion Tunic

Link’s redesign for Nintendo’s current era sets a tone. It’s a defining new look that departs from his familiar Green Tunic. Yet, the Champion Tunic looks great when using any weapon.

The best part is Zelda wears something similar as well. As for Link, it’s entirely possible to wear this through most of the game and fight in it without drawbacks. Furthermore, it looks great with or without the headpiece attached. Even after unlocking the Tunic of the Wild through clearing 120 Shrines, it would still be hard to compete with the first true armor Link gets in the game.

5 Majora’s Mask – Kamaro

Why in the name of Din, Nayru, and Farore does a ghost wear nothing but a thong outside in the middle of the night? Unfortunately, without the Hylian Goddesses’ presence in Termina, he’s free to do what he wants.

Being forced to see him out in the open might make one think they’re seeking the wrong character when attempting to clear the Dancing Twins’ side-quest. Yet, sure as it is, players must discover Kamaro and watch his suggestive dancing in his thong. As a bonus, Link gains the Kamaro Mask which isn’t a face mask, but a mask featuring his head extending from his neck.

4 Best: Ocarina of Time – Ganondorf

Ganon was initially introduced in the series as a mean, blue, pig-like demon. While Ganondorf had been mentioned as a thief in A Link to the Past, his first human design appeared in Ocarina of Time. This mighty Gerudo King inspired fear from all who crossed him.

His black armor and his red cape became his trademark. It displayed the essence of a mighty wizard and warrior who could conquer anyone. The design was later reused in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Note that, in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Ganondorf wore the outfit designed for the Spaceworld 2000 tech demo.

3 Worst: Skyward Sword – Dodoh

Yet another clown character designed in the Zelda series. How these characters become popular among the developers remain unknown. Yet, when flying through the skies of Hyrule, this is one island to avoid.

Unfortunately, players seeking Heart Pieces will have to come here in order to clear Dodoh’s side-quest. As if his costume did not drive players off, his name inspires anything but confidence. If you never find him, you may never have to worry about it.

2 A Link Between Worlds – Zelda

Yet another gorgeous design for the Hyrule’s pride and royalty. Zelda’s trademark pink dress has appeared through most of the Zelda series. However, she wore it best in A Link Between Worlds.

What makes it especially remarkable is her appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Bearing the design of the Hylian princess, Zelda brings out the best of her design with a cheery smile. Her classic design never looked better.

1 Flamebreaker Armor – Breath of the Wild

Quite possibly the least aesthetic armor in the entire Zelda series, nothing redeems the Flamebreaker Armor’s appearance. Its only true quality is that it’s both durable and required in order to beat the heat of Death Mountain. Without the need to stay cooled off in the heat, players would almost assuredly avoid it.

Considering Ocarina of Time had a gorgeous looking red Goron Tunic, it would have been a much easier choice to go with a redesigned version. Or perhaps Link could just turn into a Goron. After all, he did it before in Majora’s Mask.
