It is a way for the game to stay fresh as sticking to the usual cycle of levels may wear players out. That is why developer Mediatonic announced at Gamescom some details of the new update. Fans got to see their first look at new courses, costumes, and much more. Here are 10 things we know thus far about Season 2.

10 Medieval Theme

The short clip by Mediatonic at Gamescom revealed the theme for the upcoming season. Fall Guys will be going medieval in Season 2, with a departure from the usual colorful aesthetic fans have gotten used to. Instead, stages are set up to look like battle arenas within castles. The new costumes are also fitting the theme of medieval times, blending the beans into the environment. Mediatonic said that they plan to create levels that are “inspired by epic quests of the middle ages” and went on to show a few examples.

9 Costumes

Costumes have become an important element of the Fall Guys series. It was going to be crucial for Mediatonic to bring their best designs to the table to ring in Season 2. There were six different types of costumes revealed: a knight, a paladin, a wizard, a dragon, a witch, and a viking. In addition, fans got to see variations of each of these costumes during the trailer. There are blue and black knights, as well as a colorful dragon versus a monotone dragon.

8 Movable Platforms

There were quite a few stages revealed in the short clip, but there was one element that remained consistent. A new factor players will need to keep in mind is the ability for them to move platforms in order to reach a certain destination.

This is not something players have seen at this point, and it’s sure to change some gameplay. Some players may choose to wait until a platform is pushed into position by someone else. Others may try to sabotage the situation. Either way, it’s a fun feature for Mediatonic to throw in.

7 Co-op Race

One of the main levels showcased thus far is shaped like a staircase. This level is the first instance of player-movable platforms being a factor. There are four layers to this course, with each donning a color of the rainbow. The goal for players is to push platforms that are around them in any way they can as a group to get to the next layer. The finish line is just after overcoming the fourth layer. This could work similarly to Tiptoe where once a path is created, it’s a bull rush to the finish.

6 A Different Race Stage

The first stage shown during the video is one that isn’t returned to after the first glimpse, but it shares similarities to the staircase-like stage they showed repeatedly. In the concept art, the stage is also shaped like a staircase. This time, it appears as if there are pre-established platforms there for players to climb on. It is unknown whether there will be player-moveable platforms on this level as well. There also appears to be an obstacle right near the finish line with spiked balls swinging in front.

5 Obstacle Course

The second stage fans saw concept art for is a large obstacle course race, likely a medieval replacement for Hit Parade. The beginning starts with players needing to choose between two paths and avoid three hanging blades on both paths. The next part involves cylindrical, spiky platforms that will likely spin as players cross. After sliding down a platform that involves more spinning blades, the next section involves a curved platform with smaller versions of these spiky cylinders serving as obstacles. Players reach victory after climbing upward and picking a draw bridge to cross.

4 New Egg Scramble

The current Egg Scramble can be chaotic, especially with the small space players have. Luckily, a new iteration of the game appears to be in the works for Season 2. One early screenshot was shown during the trailer showing a larger arena with multiple levels. In the middle of the arena is the collection of eggs.

In order to get to the pile, players will need to cross draw bridges. The screenshot shows that some of the bridges are raised and some aren’t, but it’s unclear how the bridge raising mechanisms will work.

3 Hoopsey Daisy 2

Like Egg Scramble, Hoopsey Daisy is another team game that is confirmed to get a sequel. Gameplay of it was seen during the Gamescom clip. The arena is much more centralized and circular in this version, unlike the current iteration that runs longways. The level does include drawbridges in the middle that do appear to move. One clip briefly shows them moving in sync. Another element of the arena involves pushable platforms for players to use to reach hoops.

2 Big Yeetus (Unconfirmed)

No other significant feature was shown during the Gamescom clip, but there was one announcement from the Fall Guys Twitter account that did spark speculation. A tweet on Sept. 2 “leaked” a feature called “Big Yeetus,” a quick, revolving hammer that will randomly appear in any stage. The tweet says that the feature is “chaotic neutral,” and that it could do harm or serve players well. The Mediatonic developers have yet to confirm if this is actually a feature, but it’s something else to keep an eye on.

1 October Release

Another element missing from the initial preview was a release date. Mediatonic has yet to confirm an exact date but the description of the trailer confirms an October release. On the Seasons menu in-game, there is a countdown clock that suggests that the new season will drop on Oct. 6. Developers said they are working hard to get the update done, saying that they are putting the “finishing touches” on the season. Regardless, it looks like players will have to wait until at least October to enter the medieval battleground.
