Animal Crossing Player Recreates Dorothy and Oz on Their Island

The magical land of Oz is a beloved world that many people look back fondly on. Even within the world of games, the film has a long history with LEGO Dimensions getting a Wizard of Oz set back in 2015. With a five-year gap since the last time Dorothy and her travel companions entered the world of gaming, one Animal Crossing: New Horizons player decided they needed to bring back the magic.

Redditor Wilbos_World shared a charming little video of a player going above and beyond to recreate the classic 1939 film in the sales juggernaut of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The creator of the video was twitter user Meg Mol (@megtannahill) who has actually been working on the project for some time, with early images going back to July. The video was finally uploaded on September 2, and it definitely demonstrates a dedicated project.

The 15-minutes long video was uploaded by WilbosWorld and is a delight to watch with an incredible amount of effort put behind it. WilbosWorld explores the New Horizons island created by Meg Mol and shows off the wonderful setting. Meg Mol actually escorts WilbosWorld around the island, dressing up as the appropriate character as they explore each section on the Yellow Brick Road.

The real charm of the video actually comes in at the front with Meg Mol and WilbosWorld going so far to actually recreate the iconic opening of the film within Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In a fun play on the formula, it is WilbosWorld’s villager who gets transported to the magical island of “TeaLand.” WilbosWorld goes along an adventure with Meg Mol to explore the famous areas along the Yellow Brick Road. Even the ending gets the recreation treatment as footage from the film is spliced in.

While the style of WilbosWorld exploring another island is a new spin on the formula, Animal Crossing: New Horizons recreations are a popular trend with players. While many players go above and beyond to recreate game worlds, some feel that films and television shows deserve just as much attention. One of the most famous was a New Horizons version of 1917‘s beach scene, which required a lot of coordination with numerous players.

While Animal Crossing recreations continue to grow in popularity, the closest example to Meg Mol’s island is the incredible recreation of Pokemon Blue‘s opening in New Horizons, which even featured battling villagers. Meg Mol can be proud of their charming love letter to the film that clearly left an impact on them.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
