The release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is still months away, but Activision is gearing up for an event that will show off the game’s multiplayer in action. It’s just a few days from now and the publisher wants to make sure no one forgets. That’s why it has released a short teaser video that is asking audiences to mark their calendars.
There is a lot of anticipation surrounding Black Ops Cold War, so many players don’t need to be constantly prodded by social media to pay attention, but Activision wants to reach as broad an audience as possible for its upcoming multiplayer event. The game’s official Twitter account is a daily barrage of information on the event, with its latest being a short countdown video to tease the big reveal of what it calls the “next generation of Black Ops Multiplayer.” It will be the world’s first official look at the title’s multiplayer gameplay. Whether it will live up to the hype has yet to be seen, but audiences will know in three days.
The start time for the event is set for 10 AM PT on September 9th across Twitch. Anyone who wants to keep the contents of the event a surprise should probably avoid the many leaks online. Recently, a Twitch streamer accidentally leaked gameplay of multiplayer — several minutes of it, in fact. Aside from showing what the game looks like in action, it also inadvertently highlighted an entirely new mode. Activision has done its best to try to have the video taken down, but once something is online, it’s hard to eliminate completely.
As expected, this footage has been carefully analyzed since it was released. Many of the game’s multiplayer perks have been revealed as a result, with perks like Ghost and Scavenger confirmed as returning. How they will compare in terms of power to their past iterations remains to be seen, however. Those are just two of several perks seen throughout the footage. There will also be Ninja, Tac Mask, Flak Jacket, and many others, including Wild Cards.
While the release of Black Ops Cold War is still a while away, audiences could be playing a part of it as soon as next month. According to another leak, the Black Ops Cold War beta start date will be October 8. The beta will be available to those who pre-order a digital copy of the game on PlayStation, with other systems getting their turns shortly after. The beta will finally provide players with hands-on experience, making it so they won’t have to rely so heavily on leaks and gameplay events.
Another leak, from a frequent Call of Duty leaker, gave the scoop on a fan-favorite character Soap returning to Modern Warfare. Many have been waiting for him to return for a while, but the leaker suggests he will make his big comeback soon. Many assume this means he will be part of Season 6 although this has yet to be confirmed. There are currently no details on the Season 6 at all, but each season includes a new playable character, which gives Soap the chance to be added.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available on November 13th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upgrades will also be available.
