As many will know from the exciting Super Mario focused Direct that hit earlier this week, Nintendo is currently celebrating the 35th anniversary of its infinitely popular platforming mascot. While the company used the event to reveal what players can expect to see from the iconic plumber and his roster of colorful friends going forward, it seems the company is also releasing some huge news on other related merchandise.
Announced via the Nintendo of America Twitter account, it seems Mario fans will be able to show their love of the video game icon through a brand new clothing line coming courtesy of BlackMilk Clothing. For those who haven’t heard of the brand, BlackMilk focuses exclusively on women’s fashion, having worked with properties such as Harry Potter in the past.
Not much of the clothing line has actually been revealed, with Nintendo promising to give more information about the upcoming merchandise in the form of a “lookbook” on September 30. That being said, the company has shown a brief tease of what to expect, with a pair of blue dungarees and a black shirt sporting Super Mario iconography being highlighted below the announcement. The shirt itself has a very overt super mushroom theme, with the unique power-ups being patterned on the fabric, while the dungarees sport a power star, some coins, and a Mario emblem. Fans do know that the full lineup will be available on October 5, however, meaning it won’t be long until Mario fans are able to purchase some new threads to show off their love for the franchise.
Outside of the clothing, Mario’s 35th Anniversary seems like it’ll be one to remember, with Nintendo announcing that a number of new entries in the franchise are coming this year. The biggest is easily the Super Mario 3D All-Stars Collection, which allows players to pick up Switch ports of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy in one comprehensive package. All three games have been begged for by fans since the Switch released, yet, that doesn’t mean the reveal has been without controversy. Nintendo added the strange stipulation that the games would only be available until next March 31, 2021, with many labeling the decision as being anti-consumer.
Alongside that reveal, Nintendo also announced a Mario battle royale titled Super Mario Bros. 35. A Nintendo Switch port of Super Mario 3D World was also unveiled, alongside a new Game and Watch: Super Mario Bros device meant to replicate the retro handheld console. Evidently, there’s never been a better time to be a Mario fan.
