Award Winning Actress Mia Farrow is Playing Outer Wilds

Mobius Digital’s space-exploring indie game Outer Wilds has been lauded by critics across the industry since releasing in 2019, even winning BAFTAs for Best Game of the year, Best Game Design, and Best Original Property. However, it’s not just game critics praising Outer Wilds. Award-winning actress Mia Farrow announced her love for the game on Twitter yesterday, insisting people “have to try” it.

Farrow is perhaps still best known for her performance as Rosemary Woodhouse in Roman Polanski’s iconic 1968 horror film Rosemary’s Baby, but her acting credits stretch into the 2010s with other prominent roles like Daisy Buchanan in the 1974 adaptation of The Great Gatsby, according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb). The actress has also worked with activist groups like The Enough Movement, which cites her as taking part in events like a 12-day hunger strike for Darfur and a “Raise Hope for Congo” campaign.

Much of Farrow’s Twitter feed reflects a focus on social justice issues and commentary on the current political climate in America. Because of that, it is somewhat surprising to see her take a step back this Sunday to instead chat about Outer Wilds, which she said is “beautiful & thoughtful,” and even the “best video game.” Then again, it is also cool to get a glimpse into some of her recreational interests.

Farrow is also not the only celebrity that has used their social media platforms to talk about video games. For example, actress Brie Larson recently started her own YouTube channel, came onto the Animal Crossing: New Horizons talk show Animal Talking, and praised games like Breath of the Wild on the YouTube show Hot Ones.

In fact, film stars are not the people of some celebrity acclaim who have talked about video games as a preferred pastime. Many WWE wrestlers have incorporated video games and such into their identities, such as Zelina Vega dressing as characters like D.Va from Overwatch and Nessa from Pokemon Sword and Shield. However, a recent mandate could force these WWE stars to shut down their Twitch and YouTube accounts.

Some of the best video games have a way of connecting with people all across different spectrums of life, be it socioeconomic or cultural divides. The Legend of Zelda-inspired Outer Wilds has clearly struck a chord with many for its deep exploration and time-looping mechanics, and it’s interesting to see that love extend to even acclaimed actresses like Mia Farrow.

Outer Wilds is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
