Marvel’s Avengers Has a Fun Nod to Age of Ultron | Game Rant

With Marvel’s Avengers finally out, fans have been scouring the game for any fun references, Easter eggs, or wider universe teases they can find. In turn, some fun nods to Marvel history have been uncovered, including a reference to The Red Room where Black Widow was trained to be a Soviet spy and Black Panther’s Shuri who, in this universe, designed Captain America’s newest shield.

Yet, there’s one particularly fun nod in the game that acts more as a fun recurring joke than an acknowledgment of the wider universe of Marvel’s AvengersThe gag itself can be found within the Avenger’s helicarrier and stands as a strong hint towards the team’s second epic assembly in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

As many will no doubt remember from the film, one of its earliest moments sees The Avengers celebrating after a successful mission. During a party held for the team, they decide to test their worth by attempting to lift Thor’s trusty hammer Mjolnir. Everyone fails dramatically except Captain America, who manages to make the hammer move slightly before giving up. It’s easily one of the MCU’s funnier jokes, showing the comradery and individual talents of each of its core members.

Clearly, Crystal Dynamics loved the moment so much that it saw fit to immortalize it within Marvel’s Avengers, with a series of fun Easter eggs seeing each of the game’s cast attempt to lift the mighty weapon. Thor, of course, lifts the hammer with ease, declaring out loud that he’s the strongest Avenger. The others aren’t as lucky, with the superheroes having unique reactions and methods to lifting Mjolnir from its resting position beside Thor’s bed. Captain America, however, manages to move it incrementally, resulting in a fun nod to Age of Ultron’s similar joke. The nod is even funnier when considering that Captain America’s most recent outing in Avengers: Endgame saw him actually wield the godly weapon in his battle against Thanos.

Hopefully, the gag will continue running through future updates and additional content, with fans likely keen to see how Kate Bishop, Hawk-Eye, Spider-Man, and Black Panther all fare against the mighty weapon. Regardless, it’s great to see the game embracing the Easter egg and reference heavy nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, both to offer some fun winks to fans and sow the seeds for future story beats down the line.

Marvel’s Avengers is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
