Believe it or not, Marvel’s Spider-Man released on the PlayStaion 4 two years ago today. That’s right, the best selling PlayStation exclusive is celebrating another birthday and to commemorate the occasion, a new limited print variant is releasing in collaboration with Grey Matter Art and freelance artist Chun Lo.
The piece shows Spider-Man in his Anti-Ock suit that’s been put through the ringer with his Insomniac Game’s designed suit underneath. The piece is 18” x 24” with a varnish finish, and encompassing 9 colors with metallic inks. The print will be limited to 100 numbered pieces and will be available later today at 5 p.m. PDT
Chun Lo has freelanced for several companies throughout the years. Lo has worked with companies such as Dark Horse Comics, Nike, and 2K Games in the past, even working on prints based on a number of video game properties like Persona 5, Arkham Asylum, and the just released port of Catherine: Full Body.
Last month, Spider-Man fans on Twitter celebrated national Spider-Man day by sharing screenshots of Marvel’s Spider-Man using the game’s photo mode. The celebrated day was the 58th anniversary of Spider-Man’s first appearance in the Marvel comic Amazing Fantasy 15. The character has breached many forms of media since, with several cartoon shows, movie appearances, and dozens of video games across multiple console generations.
Earlier in the year, Sony officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 along with a new Spider-Man game from Insomniac Games. Featuring Miles Morales as the main character, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will release for the PlayStation 5 as a launch title this fall. The reveal was met with a tremendous amount of praise for the beloved character, and while the game will be a bit smaller in scope, there are rumors that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will come with a remastered version of the 2018 classic.
In addition, Spider-Man is set to make an appearance as a Sony exclusive character in the just released Marvel’s Avengers. The announcement of the exclusivity of the character has been met with much ire from fans who own a copy of the Xbox One version of the game as the DLC will also have exclusive story content. Spider-Man’s appearance in Marvel’s Avengers may have been leaked to launch next March, though no official statement’s have been made by Sony or Square Enix.
Copies of Lo’s print are limited so those interested in purchasing one better act fast. The print can be found on PlushArt’s official website along with several other piece’s involving many beloved video game characters.
