Riot Games is gearing up for the League of Legends 10.19 patch scheduled for September 15th. The patch comes before the World Championships starting on September 25th in Shanghai, despite previous League of Legends event cancellations. The 10.19 patch, dubbed the World Championship update, will not be as large as other patches, but will have major implications to the tournament meta, so it is watched closely by competitive players.
Riot Games developer Mark Yetter has revealed the champions set to receive buffs and nerfs in the League of Legends update. Yetter has also stated that the changes will be “fairly small” to make sure that gameplay remains fair in the League of Legends World Championships. As of now, eight champions will receive buffs and six champions are set to receive nerfs. Although not much is known about the actual buffs and nerfs, the changes may switch up some champion selections and strategies.
Some of the champions being buffed could mean some changes to the meta in the World Championships. Sivir, Sylas, and Irelia are all receiving buffs that could influence their use in the competitive scene since all three have been utilized heavily in competitions. After a nerf in the 10.13 patch, Aphelios is also getting a buff to most likely help address the drastic reduction to the champion’s AD growth and Ultimate follow-up attack bonus.
The previous patch overhauled Ahri, so she will also receive a buff to follow up and make slight changes to her. While her changes will most likely be minimal, fans are wondering what the buff for Udyr could entail. While Udyr’s play rate has risen since the 10.15 patch, he is still not a very viable champion in competitive play and the buff could improve his usage. Mark Yetter also asked fans if they would like to see improvements to his core, or a massive overhaul, adding that he would like to see Udyr stick to his core of being a melee driven champion.
Two champions receiving nerfs may change the meta going into the Championships. Both Azir and Nunu are champions frequently used with Azir boasting a 60% ban/pick rate in the Summer LCS split. The nerfs could affect Jungling with Nunu and the bot lane with the Twisted Fate and Caitlyn nerfs. The patch is scheduled to go live on September 15th, so fans can check back then to read up on all the changes to the champions set for buffs and nerfs.
