New Leaked Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost Armor Embraces Horror Theme

Halloween is right around the corner, and the Festival of the Lost event in Destiny 2 will start just a few weeks before spooky festivities kick off in many parts of the world and continue straight into early November. This year’s scary annual event is leaning into horror themes, especially with Destiny 2‘s event armor.

Festival of the Lost came to Destiny 2 in 2018, and traditionally lets players engage in Halloween-themed festivities and compete for special items such as masks and consumables. A prominent Destiny 2 dataminer known as @GinsoKR recently tweeted a promo image from this year’s upcoming event, which will start in less than a month. Halloween costumes and decorations across franchises often incorporate horror elements, and this year Bungie is drawing inspiration from popular horror tropes and stories.

The images are seriously spooky, and include characters dressed up like a demonic suit-clad figure who looks like Dracula from Castlevania, a Guardian with glowing eyes and fur growing out of their armor like a werewolf, and an infected Guardian wearing hefty chains. Other characters have a ghostly glow, which is perfect for a time of year focused on the dead and the “lost” referenced in the event’s title. Chains are another common theme, which adds a cool old-timey element to the sci-fi game.

The Festival of the Lost in Destiny 2 is usually focused on gravestones, witches, and other spooky subjects, but there’s lots of fun to be had in the event whether one is a fan of that aesthetic or not. Players can earn emotes, candy, masks, and armor to join in the holiday spirit and to make use of the items’ bonuses for regular gameplay. Horror games are a very popular genre, with the Silent Hill, Pathologic, and Resident Evil franchises scaring fans all over the world. This event is a bit more “silly scary” than “creepy and terrifying,” but it’s a nice way for non-horror fans to dip their toes into a scare.

The images are proving to be pretty popular on Twitter, and the OP’s replies are full of approval for how creepy and “edgy” the armor looks. Several people announced their intention to nab these armor pieces for their characters, because they’re just too cool to pass up. Not only are these looks thematic, but they’re very visually clean and detailed and a lot of effort clearly went into polishing the details.

The annual Festival of the Lost is a fun distraction for a lot of players from the main playlists, and although it’s not the most generous on loot, it can be exciting to join into a holiday-themed event with other players from all over.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
